Our experienced cladding company team answer your FAQs

  • What guarantees do you provide?
A 15-year warranty is issued for Loxo to Graphex cladding and is valid provided that maintenance is completed and repainting is undertaken every 7-8 years. Repainting not only ensures you are covered under warranty, it also extends the longevity. All workmanship is 100% guaranteed. Plus, all the maintenance requirements and council information are included in the paperwork you receive.
  • What maintenance is required after exterior cladding is installed?
Every 12 months a washdown is needed to keep the exterior of your home or building looking great. Although this additional service is needed to ensure your warranty isn't void, the cost for this is small.
  • As well working with private building contractors, do you also work on regular houses requiring new cladding?
Yes, of course. Although Award Coatings does carry out a lot of work for new builds, work is also done for existing residential houses across Dunedin. Talk to us about your best options for recladding your home and to obtain an accurate house cladding cost.
  • How far do you travel for jobs?
Award Coatings is willing to travel up to 45 minutes out of Dunedin to work on your Otago home or commercial building. You can rely on our dedicated team to show up on time and complete your job precisely.

Exterior Cladding

Award Coatings is the only installer of AAC external wall cladding systems in Dunedin
Are you looking at building a new home? Perhaps you have a leaky home? Perhaps you want a warmer home where the amount of moisture inside is reduced? Perhaps you would like to replace your existing brick veneer? Or perhaps you wish to modernise the appearance of your home with a stunning, new appearance? No matter what your purpose is, AAC cladding ticks all the right boxes.

Compared to traditional masonry, AAC panels perform better in every area. And although AAC cladding is more expensive than other options, you are investing in a high-performance material that is low-maintenance and doesn't have ongoing costs. It is also the product many private building contractors recommend.

If AAC cladding is not an option for you, Award Coatings does offer more affordable Graphex cladding. To find out the cost of house cladding using AAC products , please contact Award Coatings today. If you are looking for a precise exterior plasterer or painting contractor, you can also get in touch with Aaron Ward and his experienced team.

Reasons why Award Coatings installs and highly recommends AAC cladding

Sound insulation properties - AAC panels have good insulation properties with low thermal conductivity. You can view the Loxo Vented Thermal Certificate here; and the Loxo Unvented Thermal Certificate here.

High acoustic performance - It is a fact that houses with AAC panels are quieter and more comfortable than houses that use other cladding systems. Although AAC veneer panels, blocks and floor panels are lightweight, they possess a high surface mass. This means AAC panels can absorb and reduce sound transmission of sound from outside and inside.

High durability - The AAC veneer panels, blocks and floor panels are low-maintenance products that offer high durability. They easily surpass the New Zealand Building Code requirements for life expectancy. AAC panels will not warp, or rot and are pest-resistant.

Design flexibility - No matter what your situation is, AAC cladding systems can fit seamlessly with your design. They allow for modular design and construction and offer minimal cutting and wastage. Plus, they assist in the addition of other design features including quoins and corbels.

Fire-resistant - The materials used in AAC veneer panels, blocks, floor and fence panels have an ignitability index of 0 and will not combust in the event of a fire. They also don't produce any toxic gases or vapours.

Environmentally-friendly production process - AAC veneer panels, blocks and floor panels are formed with autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). This building material is mineral-based, natural, non-toxic, pollutant-free and is made from abundant resources. It is resource-efficient, with a finished product volume of four to five times the raw materials used. The production processes are environmentally-friendly with all waste product recycled back into production and zero pollutant emission.

Our experienced plastering contractors answer your FAQs

  • What is the difference between plastering and rendering?
In New Zealand, the terms for solid plastering and rendering are used interchangeably.
  • What type of finish can I achieve with external plastering?
You can stipulate any finish you like. This ranges from an extremely smooth finish through to a very textured finish and anywhere in between. Although many of our customers choose a smooth finish, as it is more modern, some prefer the rougher appearance of stucco.
  • What does plastering typically involve?
If you have a new build, the cladding is completed first. Then, a masking film is applied to joinery for protection. Any existing work is water-blasted clean. Plaster is usually comprised of cement and aggregate that is manufactured as a dry powder and mixed with water. Three coats of plaster are expertly applied, with drying time needed between each coat.
  • Do you carry out skim plastering?
Yes. Our Dunedin-based painting contractors do skim walls in preparation for interior painting. Skim plastering is used over Gib or existing walls to create an even surface before painting or wallpapering.

Exterior painting for residential and commercial clients throughout Dunedin

Does your commercial building need a fresh coat of paint after rendering? Perhaps the building your business has just moved into needs painting to reflect your brand? Perhaps your weatherboard home needs painting to protect the timber? Or perhaps you want to increase the value of your home by painting it before putting it on the market?

Painting is a skill that requires close attention to every detail and careful prep work to attain a successful result. Don’t DIY. Instead, contact us. Whether you are a domestic or commercial customer, you can be assured our solid work ethic results in superior workmanship and full compliance with industry standards. At all times stringent health and safety protocol is practised.

Every interior painting job results in a precise finish

Whether you would like to refresh your interior or have just moved into a new build, our Dunedin-based painting contractors know how to achieve a flawless paint finish. Achieving the best possible finish is dependent upon correct paint preparation. 80% of our time is spent preparing the walls, door and window frames before a roller is even picked up.

From paint selection through to the final coat and cleanup, every step of the painting process is undertaken precisely. For longevity and protection, only top-quality paints and coatings are used. Throughout the job, your belongings are 100% protected. Plastic sheets are carefully laid to protect your flooring and drop sheets placed over any furniture that cannot be moved out of each room.

Enhance your interior with our professional wallpapering service

Many of our customers choose to wallpaper a single room, wall or dedicated area. With multiple colours, textures, patterns and prints it is easy to modernise your interior and personalise your home. Compared to paint, wallpaper is tougher, more durable and withstands wear and tear better. And although wallpaper initially costs more than paint, it has greater longevity than paint and is, therefore, a better long-term investment.

It’s easy to work with us. Simply choose your favourite wallpaper and we’ll let you know how many rolls are needed to cover the intended area. You can then purchase the rolls yourself or Award Coatings can purchase it on your behalf.

Specialist deck waterproofing and roof waterproofing

Aaron Ward, owner of Award Coatings has more than three decades of experience in waterproofing decks and roofing. Cheap or poorly executed waterproofing can leave your deck or roof vulnerable to leaks which can lead to expensive damage. For this reason, Aaron uses tried and tested waterproofing solutions from Equus. Depending on your requirements, one of the following products from Equus is typically used:

  • Liquid applied flexible reinforced membrane - With multiple topcoats available, this product is used to seal flat and near flat roofs, decks and patios. It performs well in areas that experience foot traffic and light vehicular traffic.
  • Unreinforced liquid applied membrane - This is a hard-wearing, durable membrane especially suited to parking decks, roof decks, stadiums bleachers and balconies where a waterproof, wear-resistant, non-skid product is needed.
  • Rapid-finish waterproof pedestrian membrane - Do you need a non-slip, durable, low-maintenance and waterproof surface that can be used again just two hours after application? If so, this product is ideal.
