About us
Bates Surfaces has been a leader in surface-coating building products since 1953.
Today, we use the best UV-coating technology in the world and own one of the largest production lines in Australasia.
New Zealand’s largest applicator of UV coatings and a trusted supply partner to the local products industry for over 70 years.
We transform products, such as raw fibre cement panels, into pre-finished, factory-coated products – working with manufacturers as they make them part of their product catalogue.
In addition to fulfilling OSM orders for customers such as James Hardie and Laminex, we market our own brands – PureCoat™ kitchen and bathroom panels, PlyPlay™ pre-finished plywood wall and ceiling panels, and hygienic Fenta™ Ceiling Tiles.

New Product Development
Our R&D facility has a laboratory equipped for prototyping, sampling, proof on concept, and technology testing. Bring your product ideas and we’ll work with you to develop the best solution.
Design Development
Our design consultants can assist with new product ideas and fashion-driven colours. An on-site sampling machine allows us to create sample panels for market testing.
CustomCoat
We can provide coatings for specialised commercial projects and bespoke decorative finishes for feature walls.
Building Code Testing
We carry out quality testing and work with local building industry bodies such as BRANZ and CSIRO. We’ll ensure your product is fully compliant with the Building Code.
