The People Behind Baumann Builders

Because we are a husband and wife team who live and work so closely together, your build is planned, discussed, and worked on from dawn till dusk. We are a unique multinational couple. Erika grew up in Switzerland and has lived in New Zealand for over 30 years. Phil is passionate about intelligent design and building systems. That means we both understand and appreciate the high standard of quality workmanship evident in Swiss-built houses, and the unique environmental build conditions here in New Zealand.

Our Passion For Innovative Building

Phil loves researching innovative products and designs.
This keeps us abreast of the latest cost-effective and energy-efficient products and building systems. These we can recommend to our clients and their architects. And because we are experienced in building with Structural Insulated Panels and specialise in energy-efficient builds, we select our team, suppliers and subcontractors carefully to ensure they hold the same values as us. This means we provide a superior build experience, taking the stress out of it for you.

Our Responsibility

Wherever possible we recycle and minimise building waste. We are conscious of looking after our environment so not only do you get an energy-efficient home for your future, by employing us you are caring for the environment in the building process itself.

For us, building code is a bare minimum standard. We believe in “best practice” principles and go well above and beyond building code. So, though we are careful to stay within your budget, our specialty remains energy saving, high-performance buildings for you.

We use our experience in construction and understanding of build costs so it’s important to have the architect – engineer – builder team established before going too far with the design process. In 2014 Phil Tabb and Erika Feuz of Baumann Ltd, completed a new build for us. This was a trans-Tasman project being constructed in Christchurch, New Zealand while we lived in Brisbane, Australia. Phil and Erika were the perfect team for the job. Communication was excellent with scheduled weekly telephone updates, regular photographs, emails and any unscheduled design questions being attended to promptly. Phil’s attention to detail and conscientious work ethic alongside Erika’s accurate bookkeeping and open contact, as well as dab hand at painting, proved an effective and trustworthy combination. Both Phil and Erika have flair and an eye for design. They were able to interpret our ideas into functional practice without losing visual appeal. On occasion, they worked long hours to complete stages in order to meet our agreed completion dates. The end result is a cool and unique home that we are extremely proud of. We engaged Baumann Ltd to build my holiday home in Te Anau. Being 8 hours away it was important that the project was well managed to ensure it was built in a timely manner. Phil went the extra yard to make what seemed a difficult project easy. Well, he made it seem easy! Good project management, the building method used and hard work saw this house completed in 4 months. Ok, he did work hard for 12 weeks. He left when the project was finished.
