Breen Construction has been leaders of the construction industry since 1939.

Everywhere you turn you will find examples of our work - throughout Otago, Southland and MacKenzie Country.

At the centre of it all is our head office in Alexandra, but we are now also established in Cromwell, Wanaka, Dunedin, Twizel and Oamaru.

From large-scale commercial developments through to building new wineries, heritage restoration work and award-winning architectural homes, we cover every aspect of the project delivery.

Breen has a robust reputation that has been built up over decades. Our company continues to evolve and expand - along with our portfolio and client base.

We strive to deliver exceptional construction methods and expertise, whilst remaining true to our founding values from 1939. It is our integrity, leadership, reliability and delivery of the final product that sets us apart, and keeps our customers coming back. From performance comes reputation, and through reputation comes confidence and trust.

Expertise

ARCHITECTURE

BREEN has come a long way - particularly in the past 20 years with more and more clients requesting architectural homes that suit their individual style. Our design team works closely with architects and will also call in other experts locally or nationally to provide additional support where needed.

We require of our own people that which you require of us; professional commitment, liaison, workmanship and finish of the highest standard. We know that reputation is our most important asset. We strive for satisfaction, integrity and respect in all that we do.

COMMERCIAL & RETAIL

We can turn your ambition into stunning architecture, and our experience in handling large-scale commercial projects assures client confidence.

Our expertise is based on proven delivery and innovative approaches to each project’s unique set of challenges.

Whether building for the private or public sector, as an investme

nt or a new venture, we understand the need for lasting quality and flexibility.

Our local knowledge, technical know-how and well established relationships with leading designers and tradespeople, ensures the construction needs of our clients are fully understood – and consistently met.

DESIGN & BUILD

BREEN can turn your vision of the perfect home or commercial building into a benchmark for quality, and a legacy for future generations to enjoy.

We have a passion for perfection, a strong focus on maximising value, and we are innovative in design and specification - whilst being discerning in the adoption of new trends.

We pride ourselves on our ability to meet almost any development requirements, and can tailor construction and designs specifically to our client’s requirements.

We are committed to excellence right from the initial design stage through to the build and including after-sales care.

This enables us to carry out development projects that are suitable, realistic and cost effective to all of our clients, keeping them informed and up-to-date through every step of the development process.

CIVIL CONSTRUCTION

BREEN has been involved in infrastructure development since 1960 - building bridges, irrigation schemes, refuse centres, power stations, reservoirs and dams. We have the expertise to carry out a comprehensive range of construction services for large and small-scale civil engineering projects.

Much of our civil work takes us out back country and beyond - from grape growing country in Bannockburn to the foothills of the Southern Alps.

REPAIRS, MAINTENANCE & ALTERATIONS

No job is too small for BREEN.

We have the right team for your renovation project, house extension, makeover or upgrade - big or small.

We also carry out insurance work and specialise in rental property maintenance, and can provide a no-obligation quotation before work commences.

PUBLIC

Build it and they will come. In working with community demand, we will continue to ensure they have the right assets needed to function, develop and thrive.

Some of our earliest projects included the Centennial Pool and Molyneux Stadium in Alexandra, and since then we have moved into other communities in Otago and beyond, and built or upgraded medical centres, libraries, retirement villages and schools - as well as sporting facilities

BREEN understands the need for lasting quality and value for money - we want these community facilities to be here for the next generation, and the next...

RURAL

We have been serving rural communities since the 1940s, and involved in building everything from hay barns, implement sheds, farm structures such as bridges and underpasses, as well as aircraft hangars, wineries and vet clinics.

Buildings designed for specialised rural business operators constantly feature in our work schedule.

Primary industries are important to us, whether it be agricultural, horticultural or viticultural. BREEN understands the importance of constructing buildings which stand the test of time.

EARTHQUAKE STENGTHENING

A new national system for managing earthquake-prone buildings in New Zealand came into effect in July 2017. The new standards affects owners of earthquake-prone buildings, territorial authorities (local councils), engineers, building professionals and building users.

BREEN has embraced the new standards and proactively worked with business owners and government authorities to ensure these buildings will stand the test of time.

We have carried out extensive strengthening work on the historic 1883 Oamaru Courthouse in 2018, which was closed in late 2011 after being deemed unsafe. The company also brought the architecturally prominent Marshall Building in Oamaru (built in 1880) up to earthquake standards.

HISTORIC

BREEN works on nationally recognised historic structures to help preserve, restore and breathe new life into them.

Inherently complex and sensitive, building restorations involve the management of multiple interfaces and the introduction of technology-led solutions.

Working within the historic precincts of former gold towns and districts such as Bald Hill Flat (Fruitlands), Naseby, St. Bathans, Dunstan (Clyde), Lower Junction (Alexandra) and Upper Junction (Cromwell) requires special attention to detail, as well as listening to the needs of the client and guardians of the buildings - such as Heritage New Zealand.
