About us
Briody Constructions is a renowned construction company owned by Oscar Briody, who was born and raised on a farm in Bellbrae.
Having grown up on the Surf Coast, he has witnessed significant changes in the area, with his childhood school now transformed into a Coles store and the once open fields converted into housing estates. Despite these transformations, Torquay’s essence remains intact, and Oscar always holds true to his roots.
The values instilled in Oscar during his upbringing on the farm have shaped his approach to both business and life. Trust, innovation, dedication, integrity, and quality are the guiding principles that he applies to every project undertaken by Briody Constructions.
With a deep love for building and the outdoors, Oscar pursued an apprenticeship that allowed him to explore breathtaking locations and immerse himself in high-end architectural design projects. Now, as the owner of Briody Constructions, Oscar leads a skilled and experienced team that is committed to delivering high-quality, customised renovations. Their expertise and attention to detail ensure that each project is tailored to the unique needs and desires of their clients.
If you are looking to create your perfect living space, do not hesitate to contact Briody Constructions to discuss your vision.
Core Values
Trust, innovation, dedication, integrity, and quality
Trust – firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.
“Relationships have to be built on trust”
Clients must trust us to deliver the project to the standard they deserve; after all we are working on their house, which more often than not is the single most important investment in their lives. Trust is essential to an effective team because it provides a sense of safety. When your team members feel safe with each other, they feel comfortable to open up, collaborate, create and become more productive.Trust is also essential for knowledge sharing and growth.
Innovation – a new idea, method or device.
‘Workplace Innovation’ defines evidence-based organisational practices that enable employees at every level to use and develop their skills, knowledge, experience and creativity to the fullest possible extent, simultaneously enhancing business performance, engagement and well-being. Constant development of sytems and processes produces a higher standard of construction.
Dedication – the quality of being dedicated or committed to a task or purpose.
Good examples of dedication to work include taking on new responsibilities and assignments, even if they fall outside your job description. Taking on other responsibilities makes you more well-rounded and knowledgeable and show your clients that you will step up when needed and take on additional tasks to complete the project to a higher standard.
Integrity – the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.
Integrity in the workplace comes in many forms, but above all refers to having upstanding character traits and work ethics including sound judgement, honesty, dependability, and loyalty. Everyone is accountable and puts the success of the project and company before their ego.
Quality – the standard of something as measured against other things of a similar kind; the degree of excellence of something.
Quality work is the service/task one completes successfully within the estimated time, with the end output satisfying the expectations of everyone involved, including oneself.
- Hold yourself to the highest standard
- Walk the extra mile
- Recognise mistakes and take corrective action
- Work with your team
- Stay focused and follow your schedule

Our Story
The origin story of Briody Constructions
Hi I’m Oscar Briody, I grew up on a farm in Bellbrae and have seen a lot of change through my time living on the Surf Coast. My first school now sits under the Coles in central Torquay and many of the paddocks we played in as kids are now covered in houses; but Torquay will always be Torquay – we embrace new and exciting changes.
Important values such as trust, innovation, dedication, integrity and quality were all lessons learned on the farm that I implement today in business and in life. These values were reinforced during many years of playing football in Torquay. The importance of teamwork was paramount to success. A love for the outdoors was one of the main reasons I started my apprenticeship, I always try and get out for a round of golf, a run, hike, help my family on the farm and explore the stunning country we have around us.
With a passion for the outdoors I spent four winters making snow and skiing in Thredbo. Along with meeting and working with a lot of interesting people from all over the world, I was able to see some spectacular areas of Kosciusko National Park. I was lucky enough to follow this passion to Japan and skied some amazing regions over there while enjoying the food, culture and trying to take in as much of the Japanese methods and ideas on construction as I could.
Some of the things I’ve brought back with me is we should all care for our surroundings, try and minimise waste, appreciate the views all around us and that you can create buildings that sit connected to the environment and compliment the landscape around them.
Being on the Surf Coast, I believe this is an important consideration and something that we keep in mind when meeting with our clients and design partners on site at the beginning of a project.
I was lucky to work with experienced builders on high-end architectural jobs right along the Surf Coast from the moment I started my apprenticeship. That meant I was able to learn what was required to deliver high-end homes to the standard that clients and architects require right from the start. I have never lost sight of this and quality remains an essential part of what we strive for on a daily basis.
My first supervisor and a man that taught me many skills educated me on an essential mindset when building architectural homes. Adapt and overcome.
Things will always pop up on more complex builds but they are the opportunities to refine the design and find solutions.
I have been running Briody Constructions for over three years now and have a local team with a combined 45 years’ construction experience. All of our licensed tradesmen are local, work on every job and bring continuity and open communication making sure each trade looks after the next so there are no surprises at the end and we can achieve the desired result for our clients.
Your home is unique – it’s filled with photos, memories and little parts of you and your family. So if you are thinking of building or renovating your home and are looking for a team with highly skilled craftsmen that act with care, an eye for detail and understand your home is distinctively yours, please pick up the phone and give us a call or reach out through our contact form on this website. I would love to talk to you about how we can help you create the perfect space for you and your family.
Our Process
How we work with you
This is the Briody Constructions process; we have developed this so you can understand how we work with you throughout the life of your project.
1. Initial contact
We go through some qualifying questions to understand the space in more detail to see how we can help with your project.
2. Site visit
The first site visit is really a reconnaissance mission to get eyeballs on the project and get a deeper understanding of what is trying to be achieved and if there is anything that could stop that happening. We also take a range of photographs and notes based on conversation.
3. Introduction with architect or draftsman
We will pair you with an architect or draftsperson depending on your project and who we believe is best suited to you specific needs and requirements.
4. Design process
We will remain in contact with you and the designer through this phase and any questions or details required for construction will be ironed out at this stage.
5. Selections and pricing
Working with both you and the building designer we will be involved as little or as much as you need in selection of materials and fittings and fixtures, as we know this can be a daunting process on your own so we are here to help.
6. Delivery of quote
We will meet onsite to go through the quotation in depth to be clear on what has been included and what has been excluded and if there is anything that requires further specification or decisions that will need to be made during construction.
7. Site set up
With construction set to start we will secure the site, with fencing or hoarding. Special consideration will be undertaken on renovations and extensions to ensure safety for the clients and trades by separating the work site from the home.
8. Construction
Once construction starts you will see us, along with our extended team, coming and going from site as we build your dream home. You will have access to frequent site meetings, ability to contact site supervisor and weekly updates with photos and phone calls. You will be notified of all relevant inspections and kept up to date with timeline expectations.
9. Finishing
Towards the finish of the project we will have a site visit to go through any defects or aspects of the project you want to rectify. We will accompany you through this and answer any questions you have. We will also start to remove any site fencing and prepare the project for landscaping if required and final clean.
10. Handover
At handover the project will be cleaned, have its final inspection and be ready for you and your family to move back in and enjoy the space that has been created. We will have another site meeting where we will walk through the project.
