People & Context

CCM takes an experiential approach to design, investigating how the buildings will be understood from the perspective of those who live, work, play or pass by them. This approach focuses our design attention on scale, proportion, materiality, tactility, acoustic quality and light.

We take time to fully understanding the context of a project, concentrating on site analysis, definition of project parameters, and investigation into the cultural, historical, social, urban, economic and environmental factors that will influence the design.
We actively listen to the people who will use the buildings or its surrounding areas to gather their input, and understand their point of view. Our aim is to always create architecture which relates directly to the people who interact with it, and spaces which are welcoming, uplifting and memorable.

Clarity

Our work is characterised by legibility of idea, transparency of process and clarity of communication. Rigorous thinking informs logical planning, clean formal composition and balanced design responses.
Intelligent creativity is applied to the design process to create buildings which are both functional and inspiring.

Collaboration

Design innovation is often sparked by the connection of ideas between people and across disciplines including the client, consultants and contractors as well as the architectural team. We take a collaborative approach to our work, and enjoy the stimulation of good working relationships with project teams.

Collectively defining the issues and agreeing the appropriate strategic and conceptual response is the heart of our design team leadership philosophy. CCM plays the role of conductor and facilitator, encouraging open dialogue within our office space and the project team while ensuring the design vision is achieved.

Like most people today, CCM are increasingly aware of the need to be conscious of and responsible about the way we use our limited resources and energy. The construction and ongoing operation of buildings are responsible for 40% of total energy consumption. The way we design our buildings, cities and suburbs must consider how to reduce the impact of building and inhabitation on the planet.

Exploration

At CCM we are committed to doing our very best to preserve our valuable natural resources with every project we undertake. We take a holistic approach to environmentally sustainable design, which involves investigation into opportunities for re-use of existing buildings, structures, or construction elements, recycling and recyclability of materials, efficiency in circulation and space planning to reduce overall building size, passive building systems for ventilation, heating and lighting, efficient mechanical and electrical systems, systems for monitoring understanding and controlling energy consumption in buildings, and the use of sustainable and environmentally preferable materials.

Sustainability

Our commitment to sustainability in construction and efficient operation of buildings extends to CCM being an active member of the Green Building Council. We inform clients of opportunities to enhance their projects through a sustainable approach.

CCM is a dynamic team of talented Architects, graduates, interior designers and administration staff, all of whom contribute to the success of the practice. We take a collaborative approach to design, both within the office and with wider consultant and project teams.

John Rogers
I have always loved geography and the physical environment, which perhaps explains my love of natural materials with their richness and texture. Understanding the social and urban design context of each project is vital and my designs are clearly influenced by the environment that surrounds them.

Above all, I thrive on bringing together large complex projects for our clients. I am confident in my ability to listen, to distil the essence of what is required, and then to manage the team to deliver the vision. Strategic thinking and clear management is the key. I support collaboration at all levels and believe that strong teams produce the best results.

Guy Cleverley
I have always been inspired by travel and exposure to diverse cultures. At times I have been moved by the great architecture of the world particularly in India and Bangladesh and equally, been enlightened by the way the Aborigine people in Central Australia were so in tune with their extreme environment.

From those experiences I have developed a passion designing beautiful spaces that uplift the human spirit, helping people inhabit and contribute to their environment without destroying it. I see architecture as a performing art. The architect creates the stage but the people involved have to actively experience it.

Adam Flowers
I welcome new challenges. There is an enormous satisfaction in uncovering the right solution to a design problem. I always start with a set of rules and then allow myself the freedom to challenge the rules to find creative solutions while engaging everyone else.

I particularly enjoy working with our clients and users of the building to fully understand what’s important to them. I firmly believe in a collaborative approach and I value the input and opinions of the entire project team, from clients and consultants to contractors and sub-contractors. Listening and understanding are essential parts of the design process.
