COMAG Plumbing & Roofing

About

COMAG has evolved from the establishment of Bruce Magan Ltd by the founder, Bruce Magan in September 1967, along with the introduction of decimal currency in New Zealand.

Bruce Magan Ltd continued a small operation of about five people until we became involved in Roofing, Plumbing and Drainage work on several hotels around the upper North Island for Dominion Breweries, in conjunction with Stanley Construction Ltd. This was a turning point in the Company’s operations in that we widened our base to cover Commercial / Industrial work in addition to the predominantly domestic work we had been involved in. A steady growth took place in the 1970’s and 1980’s until the landslide of 1987, which almost put us out of business with four major debtors falling over. Little happened apart from survival until 1992 when the large recession started to ease. By that time Bruce Magan had been holding discussions between five other long term employees with a view to setting the Company up as a Co-Op.

COMAG commenced operation on 4th July 1994 comprising six Directors and a full complement of about fifteen personnel.

Today we have a compliment of fifty one people all up, being a combination of Directors, Drainlayers, Roofers, Plumbers, Gas fitters and Administration all specialising in their particular skills, supported by a good network of sub-contractors and suppliers.

We also own and operate a large number of up to date and well maintained vehicles, plant & safety equipment, as required to meet the demands of the day with particular regard to Health and Safety and overall efficiency, including a state of the art communication system. We are deeply involved in the training of apprentices and trainees in all of the skills offered.

We accept that we cannot operate a company of our size by working locally so we have developed a strong culture of travelling and working outside our area, however we have a strong commitment to the needs of Matamata community of which we are very proud. This is manifested in many ways, not the least being our local and long term Sponsorship and donation commitments which are on-going and flexible.

In the short history of COMAG as an entity we have built a strong and efficient Company and at present we have Eight Directors, Kevin Dare, Chris Henderson, Rene Thomson, Timothy Laing, James Nicholson, Hayden Wright, Andrew Foy, and Warrick Ross.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
