Emma began her career designing spaces for family and friends. Several years ago, she channeled that passion into Emma Brown Design, a full-service studio offering a multi-disciplinary approach that embraces both construction and interior design for residential and commercial projects.

Emma’s style has been described as beautiful, bold and unique. She understands that her clients lead busy lives, so is committed to taking as much of the stress as possible out of the design and build process.

Our construction and interior design approach

Building a home or commercial space isn’t for the faint hearted. But Emma Brown Design will help manage the process and the inevitable speed-bumps for you.

Here’s how we’ll do it:

Initial Consultation & Scope of Work

This is the same as our Interior Design Approach, except this time we’ll spend time going over your build dreams and aspirations.

Design Stage One

Once you’ve accepted our Scope of Work and initial quote, we’ll engage a surveyor and architect, to ensure your concept plans align with your vision. It can take some time to finalise these.

Once you’ve signed off the concept plans, our architect will complete your drawings and we can start to design the fittings and fixtures and overall colour scheme. We’ll also give you an indication of how your furniture will work in your new space.

Quote for Construction

Once we have the working drawings from the architect, we’ll create your construction quote which we’ll go over with you in person to ensure clarity around every aspect and to answer any questions you may have.

Construction Stage

This is when we breathe life into your vision. We’ll project manage this exciting stage, working alongside our trusted and experienced tradespeople. We’ll ensure your project is completed in a timely manner, on budget and to the design. We’ll regularly keep you updated to keep your stress to a minimum!

Design Stage Two

This is the part where you get to think about kitchen colours, wallpaper and the kind of taps you want in the bathroom. We’ll begin creating your dream space, presenting concepts to you in the form of a mood board. This helps you visualise the design and see the actual furniture, window treatments, fabric, flooring and accessories we’re proposing. If you live outside the Manawatū region or if for some reason we can’t meet with you in person, we’ll email your mood board and follow up with a phone or Zoom call.

Procurement

We can help curate the finishing touches for your space, including soft furnishings, window treatments and accessories. This includes ordering, tracking and managing all purchases.

Construction Extras

We can provide floor plans and 3D renders on request.

Installation and Styling

Doing everything from hanging curtains and artwork to positioning furniture is a natural way to complete your project. We can help put these finishing touches to your project if you wish.

Our interior design approach

We want to create your dream space, but first we need to know what that looks like for you. How will you use the space? How do you want to feel there? Who will you share the space with? What style and colours do you like?

Here’s the approach we’ll take:

The Initial Consultation

This is the crucial first step. We’ll pop by to see your space and get to know you and your project by walking through with you and asking relevant questions. We’ll charge a small fee for this initial consultation which also includes tailor-making a Scope of Work that outlines our strategic approach for your project.

Scope of Work

After our initial consultation, we’ll send this to you so you can see how we propose to move forward with your project. A quote will be provided which aligns with the Scope of Work.

Design Stage

Once you’ve accepted the Scope of Work and quote, we’ll begin creating your dream space, presenting you concepts in the form of a design mood board. This will help you visualise the design and see the actual furniture, window treatments, fabric, flooring and accessories we’re proposing for your space.

Design Presentation

We’ll meet with you to present your mood board and discuss our vision for your space. This is the stage where we’ll show you the samples of fabric, paint colours, tiles or other material we’ve used in your design.
