Have you ever had to take a cold shower? It’s not fun for most of us. So to enjoy a shower, many homes have a hot water cylinder to heat and store plenty of heated water we can turn on when we want it. We take it for granted that we will have hot running water when we turn on the tap. But it’s not always the case.

As with everything else, hot water cylinder and the thermostat that controls the heat, have a fixed life. The problem is that they can suddenly stop working without warning, leaving you with no hot water. You will then have to wait until a plumber can come and install a new one for you.

Servicing Hot Water Cylinders 

The best solution is to have an annual service of your hot water cylinder. When our plumbers come out to carry out your service, they will be able to spot any potential leaks or weaknesses in your cylinder. Often they will be able to repair it to prevent a leak. On the other hand, if they cannot repair it, then they can recommend installing a new one at a time convenient to you so you are not suddenly without any hot water.

There are many causes of blocked drains but the fastest way to clear a drain blockage is to use a high-pressure water jet. Our drainage guys have some of the latest drain-clearing equipment available and can quickly be at your premises to unblock your drainage pipes.

Damaged Drains

A damaged drain does not show up as easily as a blocked drain. Waste water still flows away from your sinks or toilet but signs to look for are wet areas in your garden. In fact one of the most common causes of damaged drains is tree roots growing through the drain course. The original builders or planners didn’t consider surrounding trees or it may be a tree that has been planted more recently. Either way, the cure is usually a big hole to locate the root and remove it before repairing the drain pipes. .

To save time and expense we send CCTV cameras along the drainage pipes to identify where there is root damage or any other cracks. This means we can easily find the place that needs to be repaired.

One of the most common causes of leaking roofs is poorly-fitting flashes around chimneys, sky-lights or corners in the roof. This is usually due to poor installation in the first place so it pays to work with expert roofers rather than a local builder who claims they can fit a roof. It’s not worth the risk or the cost to repair it.

Another common source of leaking roofs is blocked gutters and spouting. Vegetation and silt can build up quickly and prevent the flow of rainwater into the down-pipes. Overtime the water can seep into your walls or under the roof and from there you can have all sorts of very expensive problems. Few of us think about back-flow with our water. We turn on the tap and clean water comes out. On the other hand we flush away wastewater and it’s gone forever. But there is a risk to your health if there is a cross-connection between the incoming water supply and a wastewater source.  

This can happen for a wide variety of reasons such as a drop in water pressure, high demand can cause a fall in pressure or the water system was incorrectly installed. All of these cause a vacuum or siphon effect which can result in back-flow of wastewater into your drinking water.  

This situation is mainly in commercial operations such as laundries, garden nurseries, golf courses and many others.

We offer a back-flow consultation service to advise you of any risks you face. Clearly these health risks can be very expensive so it’s extremely important that you assess your back-flow risks and then install a back-flow prevention system so that your people and customers do not suffer any ill-health risks.  

If you already have a back-flow system in place, we can provide an Independently Qualified Person (IQP) to undertake annual certifying inspections required for building insurance & warrant of fitness.
