Kitchen King Ltd is a 100% family-owned and operated business and has been under the direction of the Bertelsen family since 2006. The company is run with joint directorship under a close father and daughter team, Allen and Jamie Bertelsen.

Our team at Hideaway Bins not only manufacture and distributes but has expanded our talented team to include research and design to ensure they can release new and innovative products to the market as required.

Innovation

LOCAL DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING INTEGRAL TO HIDEAWAY® BINS

It all starts with design. Our focus on innovation is the reason why we have been market leaders in waste solutions since 2006. More recently, Hideaway Bins launched the “Concelo Range” at the AWISA show in 2018 which won a Gold Star. “Concelo is clever, smart, well designed and is superior to every other waste system on the market.” - Judge’s comment, Australia 2018. This award winning success continued in 2019, when Concelo was awarded the Red Dot Design award in Europe for design and innovation! “A sophisticated product solution, this kitchen waste bin convinces thanks to its automatic, odour controlling closing mechanism.” - Judge’s comment, Germany 2019

Our in-house product development team includes a full-time product design engineer, who is focused on constantly improving our existing designs, and pioneering new solutions. By using 3D CAD and rapid prototyping, we are quickly able to develop, test and evaluate design concepts

COLLABORATION

Many ideas start from an ongoing collaboration with end-users and with the trade. Putting the homeowner at the centre of our process has driven our design philosophy to make sure we always make buckets easy to access and use. Hence the reason why all of our runner systems overextend to make accessing buckets easy. Mounting our bins at bench height allows easy disposal of waste without having to bend low inside cupboards. And the Hideaway Deluxe and Soft Close ranges feature integrated friction fitted lids, that reduce odours and keep hands free during use.

Our collaboration extends to designers and joinery manufacturers. We use opportunities like trade shows to engage directly with trade customers, inviting feedback and ideas for future improvements. We also recognise the unique requirements of the Australasian market.

With an industry-leading design and manufacturing process, the team at Hideaway Bins continue to produce creative solutions for both residential and commercial storage, waste and recycling requirements.

New Zealand Made

Kitchen King is a proud member of the Buy New Zealand Made Campaign. All Hideaway® Bins are made here in New Zealand and go through stringent quality procedures to ensure you are delivered a quality Hideaway bin every time.

METALWORK

Hideaway Bins work closely with New Zealand’s leading contract manufacturers of sheet metal products. Utilising cutting edge computer controlled sheet metal technology delivers high-quality precision components, which ensures the quality and reliability of all Hideaway Bins.

UNIQUE POWDER COATING

Prior to powder coating, all individual metal parts used to undergo an iron phosphate pre-treatment. Iron phosphate conversion coating is a very important pre-treatment process, adding significantly to the performance of the finished coating, improving the overall resistance of the metal part.

These parts are then subjected to an acidic bath and coated in a free-flowing dry powder which is applied manually using a handgun to ensure maximum coverage. The powder coating is applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to form a hard finish.

PLASTIC MANUFACTURING

We partner closely with leading plastic injection moulding suppliers. This gives us access to specialist skills and manufacturing machinery, allowing full control over the plastic injection moulding processes ensuring Hideaway Bins stringent quality standards are met.

Hideaway Bins are made with virgin materials, giving the finished product its outstanding durability when coping with the environment and stresses it is subjected to. The food-grade polypropylene material is FDA (U.S.A) approved and is completely recyclable.

BIN ASSEMBLY

Once all Hideaway Bin components are ready for assembly, our Product Technicians assemble the bins by hand at our facility in Silverdale, Auckland, NZ.

This assembly process allows for all parts to be hand checked to ensure the highest quality end product.

Community

Hideaway Bins prides itself on supporting our local community and the wider building industry with strong industry associations and memberships.

NKBA

The National Kitchen and Bathroom Association (NKBA) is a specialist organisation dedicated to providing leadership, direction and education for the kitchen and bathroom industry in New Zealand.

When you deal with a member of the NKBA, you're assured of attention to detail - resulting in a transformation of the style and functionality of your home, adding to its value and comfort. NKBA members have expertise and knowledge in design, manufacture and installation. They have up-to-date knowledge of new products and appliances and the latest building and renovation trends, so there will be no nasty surprises after your project is complete.

Made in New Zealand means a product is substantially transformed in New Zealand. This law applies to any business that says its products are New Zealand Made. Kitchen King is a proud member of the Buy New Zealand Made Campaign. Environmental

RESPONSIBLE MANUFACTURING

At Kitchen King®, we take pride in responsibly recycling and re-using products to minimise the impact on the environment. With the push towards the management of waste and recycling never having been stronger, Kitchen King supports the belief that as a leading manufacturing company, we need to be responsible for our actions and the effect on the environment.

We have put a number of different practices into place to ensure that our environmental impact is reduced and that our products are environmentally friendly. This includes ensuring that cardboard and palstic packaging for our bin components are re-used time and time again. All waste cardboard or plastic packaging is sent for recycling, while any metal rejects are sent away for recycling.

Our plastic buckets are made with virgin materials, giving them maximum durability, yet are still completely recyclable at the end of their life cycle. Any waste during the moulding process is reground for reuse in other components.

ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS

We are determined that not only the manufacturing process is environmentally friendly, but we are passionate advocates for sustainability, helping our customers reduce waste that goes to landfill, and increasing recycling and composting.

For example, Hideaway Bins are now available with colour coded liner holders. This reduces confusion about what waste goes in which bin, and reduces contamination of recycled waste streams.

Product Features

A Hideaway Bin is a practical solution that slides away under the bench and is completely hidden from sight until needed.

The bins are both ergonomic and functional as they are designed to be mounted at bench height and pull out towards you, allowing easy disposal of waste without having to bend inside low cupboards. Floor mount models are available for an under-the-sink solution in your kitchen.

Hideaway Bins always feature over extension runners, which means the rear bucket can be easily removed independently of the front bucket – while still clearing the overhang of the benchtop (up to 35mm).

Units are easy to clean and maintain. This provides you with a simple answer for storing waste and recycling within your kitchen, hygienically disposing of bathroom waste or sorting your whites from colours in the laundry.

All waste bins units come complete with bucket/s and a liner holder which is designed to hold your rubbish bag firmly in place. With each of the four ranges offering distinctive features and models available in handle pull or door pull, there is sure to be a Hideaway Bin to suit your needs.

Product Ranges

The Concelo® range by Hideaway Bins is the result of seven years of research, development and testing. Managing
waste can be a challenge, but Concelo is the easiest bin in the world to keep clean, while its new Active Lid helps control
odours. It not only takes all the best features you would expect from Hideaway and improves them, but it totally redefines what you should expect from your waste bin.

The Hideaway® Soft Close bin feature high-quality German soft-close runners which over extend to allow easy removal of the buckets. They also include a removable, foam-sprung friction-fitted lid that creates a seal across the bucket/s when the unit is closed, assisting in odour control. This lid has a Clinikill powder coat to fight harmful bacteria, yeast and fungi keeping the bin solution hygienic. Pitch adjustment is provided in the door bracket for ease of installation.

Hideaway® Deluxe bins feature a removable foam-sprung friction-fitted lid that creates a seal across the bucket/s. The friction-fitted lid makes the Hideaway Deluxe Bins ideal for use in a kitchen environment as odours are locked away. Quality ball bearing runners that over extend, allowing easy removal of buckets and have a dynamic weight loading of 40kgs.

Hideaway® Compact bins can be top and / or side mounted with the body acting as a cover for the unit. The Hideaway Compact range has been designed for areas of limited space. The units have high quality soft close ball bearing runners for smooth closing action and are compatible with electronic push to open systems. Models from the Hideaway Compact range are perfect for bathrooms, offices or motor homes.

Ergonomics and Smart Placement

ERGONOMICS
It is recommended that Hideaway Bins are top mounted at sink height to reduce the amount of bending required when cooking and disposing of waste. You are able to prepare food and move waste directly from the bench into the bin. The over extending tracks allows easy access to the buckets reducing your need to bend inside a cupboard to access the buckets.

The space next to the sink or under the sink is too valuable to waste. It recommended that a Hideaway Bin is placed as close to the sink as possible. This way you are not required to walk to the other side of your kitchen to dispose of waste and then walk back to the sink to clean. It is suggested that your bin is placed on the opposite side of your sink to your dishwasher.

For example, you are able to dispose of waste into the Hideaway Bin on your left, rinse the dish at a sink in the middle, then stack the dish in the dishwasher to the right - all of this is done without bending or moving around the kitchen, saving you time and effort.

SMART PLACEMENT
When designing a kitchen it is a good idea to plan the layout of your kitchen and its storage solutions by how you use and move around your kitchen when cooking. A well planned Kitchen will do a lot for you - save you time, protect your families health, reduce your effort in cooking and cleaning and make efficient use of the space you have available.

Various models of Hideaway Bins are available to suit all kinds of waste, recycling and storage needs in any area of the home or commercial project. Units featuring a 15L bin are ideal in areas such as the bathroom or a motorhome, while double bin configurations can be used for separating waste and organising recycling. Larger bins are also available, such as the 50L models which is perfect for a commercial or office kitchen. A laundry hamper is also available from Hideaway Bins to keep your laundry out of sight. Install two hampers side by side to separate whites from colours.

Professional Reviews

1 / 3

“Have had a 150L under-bench bin as our main trash bin for 5-6 years and it has been perfect. Still runs smoothly, closes softly, no smells and keeps the kitchen looking tidy. Recently had a piece break so the soft-close function wasn't working and they sent replacement pieces for both sides, no questions asked. Would absolutely recommend these as they will definitely stand the test of time and clearly stand behind their products.”
