Our History
In 1953 Sir Edmund Hillary conquered Mount Everest with Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, the Chevrolet - Bel Air was the latest four-wheel sensation to hit the market, Joseph Stalin died in the communist USSR and Fritz Zernike of the Netherlands won the Nobel prize for physics. It was also the same year Noel Holyoake commenced business as N.V Holyoake & Co. Established as an electrical contractor, the company purchased a small firm - Arnotts in Wellington, New Zealand to begin selling domestic oil fired central heating plants under the brand names Premi-Aire & Climate-Master and thus began the company associated with the HVAC industry that continues today.
The company progressed during its first 20 years to develop facilities in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Sydney, Australia handling both its heating & airconditioning appliances, and what has become its primary business - Air Distribution Equipment.
Noel Holyoake with wife Betty, the first employee of N.V Holyoake & Co
In 1973, recognising the forthcoming oil crisis, the company sold its oil heating division and renamed to become Holyoake Industries Ltd. The company then concentrated on the Air Distribution Equipment market with manufacturing licenses from Titus Corporation and Ruskin Manufacturing Company of the United States providing the technology for what is today at the base of the Holyoake product range.
In 1988 Holyoake Industries established its manufacturing facility at Loganhome, Queensland which is now located in the state of the art facility, built-in 2002 at Yatala.
In 1993 the company Achieved ISO Accreditation for its production and continues the successful model of having localised plant facilities for each market segment.
To further the companies expansion into the Australian market, Oates airconditioning was purchased to establish the Holyoake Melbourne operation in 1998.
Holyoake Industries is now the largest manufacturer of Air Distribution Equipment in the Asia Pacific Region.
At each of the Holyoake facilities is an amalgam of years of manufacturing & sales experience, together with accredited air conditioning engineers to ensure the customers and clients receive sound and reliable advice on how best to use the vast range of Holyoake products. The laboratory research & testing facility incorporated into each Holyoake plant enables the company to produce air management solutions for some of the more difficult & sensitive industry projects.
The Holyoake product range has now grown to over two hundred different products. Holyoake Industries is the leader in Fire, Smoke and Volume Control with the most comprehensive and diverse range, VAV terminals and Electronically controlled VAV diffusers and the most innovative range of Air Diffusion Equipment in the industry today. The Company is unceasing in the development and redevelopment of its range of products to ensure they continue to reflect the needs of the HVAC industry.
The company has embarked on a program of diversification and investment in addition to its interests in the HVAC industry and has business holdings and developments in commercial, industrial and residential property, marine engine importation & sales and is now one of the largest privately-owned foresters in New Zealand.
With the founder & chairman Noel Holyoake still at the helm and with the second generation of Holyoakes in Scott & Grant Holyoake as board and management, the company seems assured to continue to achieve its success through goodwill and enterprise. The group continues to grow and reflect the policy created by its founder - simply to be the best people to do business within whatever service the company provides.
Sustainability
How Green are we? Holyoake Group Climate Positive.
The Holyoake group is, if nothing else, diverse. The Holyoake Group as it is now known began in 1953 as a heating contractor and oil supplier. The Group now has interests in HVAC and Air Distribution as well as Marine Engines & Parts Distribution, Motor Vehicle Servicing, Property Investment, Farming and Forestry with 200 personnel actively employed throughout Australia and New Zealand.
The company both imports and exports raw materials and finished products through its many and varied operations. With all this activity you would expect the companies carbon footprint to tread heavily on the environment. But this is not the case. In 1988 the Directors of Holyoake recognised the export potential and long term investment value of forestry.
The forestry sector is one of New Zealand's top export earners and contributes substantially to reducing the country's greenhouse emissions. The Holyoake Forestry Group now holds 5 properties that have been developed into plantation forests. These properties, known as "Pine Oaks", "Twin Oaks", "Titoki", "Waiotira" and "Gisborne" are forested with genetically selected radiata pine trees.
The Holyoake Group has implemented its own environmental policy which requires a total commitment to exceptional standards of performance by combining economic growth with sound environmental management. The Holyoake Group will achieve our environmental objective by meeting the needs of Employees, Consumers, Customers and society in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner.
Our key environmental objectives and actions are: (extract of the Holyoake Environmental Policy)
