About us
Hi, I'm Katie.
I’m a Home Build Mentor, working alongside homeowners and residential building industry professionals to streamline new custom build and major renovation projects.
Homeowners often reflect on how stressful the process of creating their new home was, and with the right help, that doesn’t need to be the case.
I am totally obsessed with all things home creation. For twenty-plus years, I have been involved in the residential building industry as a Registered Building Designer and Project Manager. First as a Senior Designer and Director with Vibe Design Group, then in my own design studio, Katie Rees Design, since 2018.
As a sole practitioner, it became evident that the inquiry rate surpassed my capacity to serve everyone with my design service, and inquiring homeowners expressed feeling lost and unsure how to navigate the impending process. The need to help more homeowners on the right track to a successful project completion sparked the creation of the Home Build Mentoring offerings, a suite of pro-active services designed to support custom home build projects. The programs and reports bring clarity and direction to what can be, at times, a complicated industry.
Our Story
For nearly 20 years Katie has been practising as a Registered Building Practitioner.
Designing, documenting and project managing countless homes from ideation to completion.
With a wealth of industry experience and a big heart, Katie has a burning desire to remove the fear and anguish often associated with renovating, designing and building a new home and allow owners to genuinely enjoy their Dream Home Project from start to finish.
Katie’s mentoring packages are built on knowledge accumulated over her successful career specialising in residential design, combined with the life experience of navigating a major renovation and new home build for her own family.
As a wife and mother to three young daughters, Katie understands the role a well-designed home can play in supporting our intentions for a connected family. Her research and findings surrounding this very topic are being collated in a book titled ‘A House is not a Home, set for release in 2021.

The Home Build Mentoring program is like a 'Sat-Nav’ for your project. Together, we determine your project destination, then create a path to action and complete your project successfully- On time, on budget and with limited stress. The program is built around two very simple principles-

2. Implement the learnable and actionable steps within each relationship
It really is that simple. Home Build Mentoring is a One-on-One, 6-Month Support and Strategy program empowering homeowners to feel confident, calm, and in control of their home build projects every step of the way.
For Industry Professionals
Builders and Designers have a library of completed projects that remain difficult to reference given the building industry's sudden cost spike. Until now. With our ‘Build Cost Know’ reports, previous project pricing and associated m2 rates can be updated to factor in the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) output rates for ‘House Construction Australia’. The report then goes one step further to predict the future trend in house construction prices, forecasting the cost and m2 rates in the approaching years. Understanding the relative cost of your completed projects facilitates the most accurate estimation of future project pricing.
