MacRae Landscape Design (previously Sandi MacRae Landscapes) is a Christchurch-based company that was established in 1998.

The company employs a number of designers who work on a wide range of projects - including courtyard, suburban, rural and commercial properties.

MacRae Landscape Design offers a friendly, creative and experienced design service - working with you to develop outdoor living spaces that are both beautiful and functional.

We have exhibited and judged at International Flower shows and have won numerous awards. We have a huge resource of botanical knowledge and are closely affiliated with the Canterbury Horticultural Society and Christchurch Botanic Gardens.

We value the relationships we have with associated businesses and societies, and collaborate on our projects with architects, suppliers and contractors.

We love what we do and the connections we develop with our clients to create outdoor living spaces that increase the value of everyday living as well as to the overall property.

Sandi MacRae is renowned for her skilful landscaping, sense of style and proportion and plant combinations which create wonderful spaces for outdoor living.

Mark Sowerby comes from a background of architectural design and construction. He is focussed on adding value to a property and has a natural and practical understanding of design. His own property features a perennial flower garden, a woodland garden and a large area of fruit and vegetables.

We'd love to talk with you about your property and outdoor living.

OUR DESIGN PROCESS

Whether you are creating a new landscape, renovating an existing one, or simply wanting to improve your current outdoor living space, the process we will follow with you is simple and enjoyable.

1. Design Consultation
We meet with you at your home, property or our office to discuss your requirements and develop a design brief. We discuss your desires and ideas as well as assessing the style and layout of your home. Once we understand your requirements we can put together a proposal that outlines the design brief and our fees.

The cost of the site consultation is $350.00 (excluding GST). We allow 1.5 hours for the consultation.

2. Concept Plan
Once we have conducted a site analysis, we prepare a landscape concept plan showing how your spaces are laid out in relation to the house and taking into consideration the site, climate, views and local council or developer regulations. We take time to discuss this plan with you and make any amendments to tailor it to your exact needs. This plan can be used to get quotes on construction costs.

3. Planting Plan
Once the Concept Plan is finalised, we put together a planting plan showing the locations of specific plants, including spacing and the botanical and common names. We have excellent knowledge and experience of Canterbury planting and can ensure that the appropriate plants are chosen and positioned correctly for each site.

4. Construction Details

There may be some elements of your landscape that need specific drawings/construction details. These elements may include pergolas, outdoor fireplaces, water features, walls, fences and gates. These drawings ensure the work can be priced and constructed more accurately. We can also provide drawings to help obtain council consents if required.

5. Construction Supervision
We are happy to help organise quotes for the construction work and to recommend specific contractors, such as lighting designers and pool manufacturers etc.. We like to stay involved during the construction process to ensure your landscape is completed to the highest standards and help answer any questions from yourselves or the contractors involved.

The positioning of plants, sculptures and rocks are finishing touches to the transformation of your garden spaces. We can source the plants, deliver to site and position for planting.

6. On-going Maintenance

Once your project is completed we can organise a bi-annual site visit. We walk through your property with you discussing what needs to be done to keep the plants healthy and at the desired shapes and sizes.
