Masson For Light

For almost 70 years, Masson For Light has designed and manufactured quality lighting in Melbourne, Australia.

John B Masson & Associates was founded in 1953 by John B and Marie T Masson, as a specialist commercial lighting supplier. At the time John had experience working in electrical wholesale and was employed as an announcer for the radio station 3DB in Melbourne.

He hosted many radio programmes through the 1940’s when radio was the principle entertainment medium.

Through John’s connections with commercial radio, arts and electrical wholesale, the young couple seized the exciting opportunity, to begin manufacturing lighting for the newly established television stations Australia wide in 1956.

In the beginning the work was under taken at home in a large rented flat in Kew. The business grew rapidly and a factory warehouse was soon established in Collingwood. The company further prospered in the early 1970’s, through it s involvement with Australian Film as the industry came of age. A lighting rental business was established which serviced the film, television and advertising industries. These connections led to the involvement with some iconic Australian client s including the ABC ’s Countdown and several other television productions, as well as the lighting design of the world famous Myer Bourke St christmas windows.

Our purpose-built factory allows Masson to custom manufacture up to 95% our downlights, spotlights, wall lights and pendants. Produced with high quality locally sourced steel and aluminium for our product construction.

These products are supported by technical and electronic components from internationally recognised producers, with local supply chains proudly supporting the Australian business community. Our locally made extensive product range offers the option of either Architectural or Architectural Commercial providing tailored solutions to suit each project.
