History

Founded in 1981 by Chairman Ron Woodrow, Black Diamond Technologies Limited (formerly Melco New Zealand) has become a leader in the New Zealand Air Conditioning and Home Appliance markets.

BDT celebrated 40 years in the New Zealand Appliance Industry in November 2021. This milestone also marked 40 years of being the exclusive distributor of Mitsubishi Electric in New Zealand. While the first 15 years were spent specialising in residential AV products like televisions and video recorders, the factory decided that they could no longer justify producing these despite their popularity in New Zealand. So, they had to focus on finding the next big thing, and the company landed upon the then fledgling compressor driven product market.
