About us
Narofsky Architecture (NA) is a multidisciplinary architecture and design firm with more than four decades of experience creating thoughtful, highly customized environments.
Founded in 1983, our practice is rooted in the belief that successful design grows from a close understanding of our clients, their site, and the way they live and work.
Our greatest strength lies in custom residential architecture and interiors, including new homes, renovations, additions, apartments, townhouses, and multifamily projects. We are particularly experienced in transforming challenging sites, complex existing conditions, and ambitious programs into cohesive architectural solutions that balance creativity, functionality, context, and environmental responsibility.
By approaching architecture and interiors as interconnected disciplines, we create spaces that feel considered as a whole—from the relationship of a building to its landscape down to its materials, details, furnishings, and daily use. Rather than applying a predetermined style, each project is developed as an individual response to its client and context.
Our work spans an increasingly broad geographic range, from New York City, Long Island, and the greater Northeast to projects across the country and internationally. Our portfolio includes completed work as far as La Paz, Bolivia, and we are currently designing projects in Malibu, California; West Palm Beach, Florida; and on a remote site in Alaska, among other locations. This range of environments has strengthened our ability to respond thoughtfully to vastly different landscapes, climates, communities, and site conditions.
Over the course of our practice, our work has received numerous regional, national, and international design awards and honors. These include multiple AIA Long Island Archi Awards for residential architecture, sustainable design, lighting, interiors, small projects, and institutional/hospitality work; an AIA New York State Excellence in Design Award; recognition as a finalist in the Architizer A+ Awards; a PLAN Award in the Villa category; a Pinnacle Award for Luxury Pools and Outdoor Living; and honors from the International Design Awards and Ceramics of Italy. Our ATIX Hotel in La Paz received the Cámara Nacional de Comercio Bolivia Award for Innovation in Hospitality, an AIA Long Island award for Institutional/Hospitality design, recognition by the World Travel Awards, and was named one of TIME Magazine’s World’s Greatest Places.
Stuart Narofsky, FAIA, LEED AP, founder and principal of Narofsky Architecture, has been recognized throughout his career for his contributions to architecture, design leadership, and the profession. He was inducted into the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows, one of the AIA’s highest honors, and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Stuart is a past president of AIA Long Island and has held national leadership within the AIA Custom Residential Architects Network (AIA CRAN), including serving as its national chair. He currently serves as Chair of AIA Long Island CRAN and has also been honored with the AIA Long Island Lifetime Achievement Award and Special Recognition Award. His longstanding involvement with the AIA reflects a continued commitment not only to design excellence, but also to advancing the practice of custom residential architecture and mentoring the next generation of architects.
Beyond residential design, our experience extends to hospitality, medical, commercial, civic, retail, institutional, and nonprofit projects, bringing the same rigorous and collaborative design process to a wide range of building types.
Ultimately, what we do best is create architecture that is specific rather than formulaic—design that responds intelligently to place, reflects the individuality of our clients, and transforms the opportunities and constraints of each site into something distinctive and enduring.
