In May 2016 we embarked on a major renovation of our 1948 ex-state house in Auckland including the addition of a second storey and completely gutting and redoing the original structure.

Paul and Nicole completed the renovation of my first property. I was so pleased with the outcome that I ended up asking them to renovate the next property I purchased. At the time, I had to go for a trip to Europe for around four weeks so I decided to leave everything to Paul. I left him the keys to the house and I did not have any worry as I had full trust in him to sort out everything. After finishing this project, he ended up renovating two of my other properties.

I felt really comfortable as both of them knew my style and preference. Paul even went out of his way on so many occasions to help me out with moving houses! Paul was my interior designer. My home had not had any work done in over 20 years, so it required remedial work as well as renovation work. He came up with ideas I loved, I came up with some ideas he loved (he had the most ideas by far).

We started with a budget. As work progressed I changed some things (and he didn’t even roll his eyes at me, at least not that I noticed), he changed some things… and the end cost was still within the original quote. I thought my changes were going to blow out the cost, so I was very surprised and happy that it did not happen.

Nicole was also awesome. She helped me with curtains and a sofa. While I chose the curtains (with her encouragement), I was at first unsure of how they were going to be hung… But I love love love the end result.

I’m very, very happy with my new home. New fantastic kitchen, new awesome bathroom, polished wooden floors, carpet, insulation, personalised wardrobe, colours that flow throughout, amazing art work.

I believe my case is a bit different from the others. Since I was remote my entire home renovation in the other part of the world (Hong Kong). Paul was not only the person to help me manipulate the renovation work, but he was also the designer for my home. When I came up with ideas, he had provided his professional knowledge in detail for me to judge what could be done and what could not be done. I would say, with a different language and being in another part of the world, it was a seamless work experience when I worked with Paul.

I've had the pleasure of utilising the services provided by Spin Design, for a complete project managed package from start (multiple design concepts) and right through to the completion of my bathroom and WC remodel job in 2017. My wife and I had 'matrimonial differences' about our colour scheme both inside and out. After Nicole sat with us and heard us out, she sent us about 50 images of other houses so we could see what the finished job would look like.

It was not a co-incidence that my wife and I both chose the same 2 colour schemes for inside and out - Nicole really nailed our personalities and what we wanted our renovated home to look like. The job is done and we are loving what we have created.

Nicole worked with us to reconfigure a problem area in our house - A pokey bathroom, laundry and bedroom which had never functioned well, lacked storage space and were unattractive.

She was able to think outside the square and came up with a very clever redesign solution that overcame all the issues - A very minor expansion of the footprint expanded and modernized the bathroom, gave the bedroom a decent-sized wardrobe and more useable floor space, and produced a very functional hidden laundry. We had looked at this area ourselves for years and could never see an answer.

Nicole also designed a new kitchen to replace a dated one and again came up with a clever and innovative design that expanded storage space and enhanced functionality. While we did not in the end go ahead with the planned renovation (moved house instead), I would not hesitate in recommending Nicole as being a designer who listens and collaborates rather than dictates, is a clever lateral thinker, is enormously patient and finally but importantly, is a really pleasant person to work with.

My first and biggest project was to design my loft conversion and have it furnished in a way that allowed the space to be used in multiple different ways – it was to become a guest bedroom/suite but with additional facilities. Nicole was able to design the space in a way that allowed for four different functional areas: sleeping space, relaxing space, small study/desk space and a kitchenette and dining space.
