I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of my project by State of Kin. I was intrigued by their social media presence, their concepts clearly stood out, I was drawn to the story behind their team and how building and design came together for them. My first meeting at their beautiful office was a memorable one, I felt welcomed into their family instantly and have remained close friends with them long since completion of the project. I got to know every member of the build and design team during the process, and I can assure you they are people you can trust to do the best job possible. They know the industry back-to-front, and their experience is reflected in their professionalism. They are very well connected across their respective fields, and I felt confident to give them free reign as to what they thought would work best for my project. Choosing State of Kin to renovate my heritage listed property and create a one-of-a-kind Yoga and Wellness Studio with the most beautiful interiors in the Western Suburbs was the best choice I could have made. I’m so proud of their work and I can’t stop recommending State of Kin highly enough. They really made the whole experience a walk in the park. I can’t wait to work with them again in the near future.
Our family couldn’t be happier with the outcome of our house. We began our journey with a strong desire to be part of the amazing Mt Hawthorn community and have a space we truly felt at home in.
We remember our first meeting with Ara – we all just clicked from the very beginning. We described our ideal house as a large white box with a hint of Greece and Palm Springs, that got Ara excited, and she used the words ‘brutalist minimalist’ A LOT in that meeting. We had to go home and google what she was talking about but straight away we knew we were all on the same page.
We got to work with everyone in the office - from design to build - and had a great rapport with all members of the team. We were always on the same page with Ale and Amy, and we worked so hard to get our interiors and cabinetry spot on. Seeing Donny’s smiling face on site everyday made us feel comfortable and confident and he was always contactable and available to chat. It is a true family business and all the team; Gino, Steve, Massimo, Jessie, and Marty, were always there for us.
We had strong ideas, but we also felt comfortable to take on all their years of experience and knowledge to make sure we got it right. AND WE DID. The space is amazing - it’s warm and cosy with incredible sweeping curves, and most of all, it’s functional for our family of four.
We get asked all the time, ‘would you build with State of Kin again?’, and without a shadow of doubt that is a big YES. We love our house, and we are so thankful for everyone’s efforts to make it amazing.
The team at State of Kin represent some of the best design talent in WA. Having had the benefit of partnering with State of Kin to sell two of their flagship projects (Shutter House and Brick House), I have seen the wonderful value and insight they bring to the table firsthand. Good design (and build quality) can’t be underestimated when it comes to adding value to a home, and the sales results we have achieved via our partnership with State of Kin have been monumental. Both Shutter House and Brick House were sold with staggering results; each project generated a record sales price and bucked the local pricing trends in both suburbs. State of Kin brings the benefit of a turn-key design and build solution to those wanting to not only simplify the process but engage with a quality builder that has a longstanding legacy of delivering high quality outcomes. We cannot recommend State of Kin enough - they are not only incredibly talented and dynamic, but a total pleasure to work with.
After 9 busy years of operation, The Stables Bar in the CBD needed a new injection of life.
We chose State of Kin to design and construct our new addition to the venue, Little Stables, and we could not be happier with the completed high-end product that they delivered.
It was not an easy project to merge an old optometrist shop and basement space into a busy tavern site and the team at State of Kin have given us a space that now complements the existing business perfectly.
We look forward to working on future projects with them very soon.
We first engaged State of Kin to design the hub of our home, our kitchen.
Having already fallen in love with some of their previous works in both residential and commercial hospitality, as well as having met with some of the team previously, we thought that they would be the right team to bring our vision to life.
With us sharing similar cultural heritage and a love for food and entertaining, we knew that State of Kin would be the perfect team to hone-in and deliver the perfect balance of our desired function and aesthetic. They have designed a magnificent work of art in the centre of our home which is also a very personalised and functional cooking and entertaining space.
From our initial engagement to the delivery of the project, the State of Kin team were nothing short of fantastic to deal with. Their ability to deliver at the highest level is deeply connected to their commitment to highest standards of quality. Apparent through their connections in the industry and by only recommending and using the best and most trustworthy products and trades people.
We cannot be happier with our beautiful State of Kin kitchen. It is the absolute heart of our family home.
Thank you to the amazingly talented State of Kin team for your patience, kindness, vision and talent. You are absolute professionals, the leaders and innovators in your field, and we hope we get to work with you again on other projects.
We were most delighted with the design and service from State of Kin, especially on the challenging block that we presented to them. The team were always innovative and supportive in helping us achieve our dream home and we could not be happier with the result. We both wanted to live in something special and were part of the process at each stage and felt our feedback was valued. Thank You to Ara and Ale for delivering a fantastic design experience.
The team at state of kin are unparalleled. I knew from the moment I stepped into the beautifully designed and built Shutter House that I had to make it my home. Living in the home for a year gave me the absolute confidence to lean on the team to help design and build the new Circles of Hair. I knew I could trust their vision and they delivered to a T on both design and build quality. During the building phase they worked with us to keep our business open and operating throughout the process. Our beautiful new space is loved by both clients and staff alike. Thanks again to the team at State of Kin.
When Alex and I embarked on our property journey, we had no previous experience with the residential building industry. While researching and shortlisting various architects, we were not certain about which qualities would convince us of the most suitable team, so we established a short list of 3 design firms and had initial discussions with each of them. However, our first interaction with SoK was very different. Within the first 5 mins of their pitch, it was clear that SoK was going to produce something remarkable and unique and would take us on a design and architecture journey that must have been subconsciously desired. During the initial high level design discussions, their creativity, passion, flair, style, energy and sophistication was very clear. They also demonstrated a level of respect and thoughtfulness with the concept of modern architecture that complimented the neighbourhood comprising of heritage homes. Our initial brief to Ara & Ale was slightly vague. This was intentional as we really wanted SoK to be unrestrained and able to unleash their creativity and design potential. The SoK team ran with this and somehow managed to put to paper what we initially found difficult to articulate. It is particularly hard to describe what this feels like other than to say that it was exceptional to be part of this process. All sessions with the SoK team, whether it being design sessions at the office, on site meetings, outings to the various vendors to look at samples, furniture selections, materiality choices etc. were always fun, full of laughter and energetic. No challenge was ever too hard to overcome, and we always felt discussions were always openly discussed with constructive actions/resolutions provided in a timely manner. They are truly a very professional set of individuals. On the construction front, the building team were also amazing. When we visited Brick House (the first home SoK constructed) there was no doubt in our mind about the high quality of their work. We were encouraged to ask as many questions as we wanted. Having the architects, designers and builders all under the same roof made the process feel seamless. The interface between all of them is very dynamic. There was no tender process to go through for building, and they communicated back and forth in a way that allowed them to push the boundaries of design. You also knew these conversations probably extended way longer than they would have if they were separate companies. When construction started, they looked after the neighbours for us and were very diplomatic, removing any stress from us. During the build, there have been no complaints. Our neighbours are always telling us how impressed they are with their professionalism and quality of work, to the extent that they have also tried to procure their services. With such a massive attention to detail, the brickwork has impressed everyone. Thus far we are very happy with the progress and quality of the build. Finally, we thoroughly enjoyed the family vibe in the office. They are really nice and fun people who love to collaborate. During this whole process we have developed a good friendship with them. As a result, we have immensely enjoyed this journey, and whilst we will be excited to move into our new home, we will be a little sad our journey with them has come to an end. But we look forward to seeing what they do next.
Ara and her team worked on the creation of Vim & Co and the result exceeded my expectations. The team was very collaborative; understanding the brief was important and Ara, Amy and Jess went to great lengths to ensure what we needed was translated. One of my concerns at the beginning was how interior designers and architects would be able to comprehend both the needs of a pharmacy while infusing the beautiful elements of retail design in one. It was wonderful to see that the combination of these identities came together seamlessly. I’m very happy with how these two parts of our business now exist together. Something that Ara did which I was very impressed with and ultimately has worked extremely well for us was making the area we use for retail smaller, which makes juggling stock quantities more viable and at the same time, has opened our space and made it look and feel bigger. The team were very supportive with the approval process, understanding that this can be a stressful part of a refit and they worked hard to touch base with our local council to push approval across the line in a timely manner. Ara was very interactive and was present at a few strata meetings when we were trying to get strata approval during the early stages. The customer feedback has been phenomenal, every day 4 years on we get positive feedback on how beautiful the store is. What they are saying is, how beautiful it makes them feel. Customers say things like, ‘wow, this is the most beautiful pharmacy I’ve ever seen’, using words that were expressed in our brief to state of kin, such as ‘organic’, ‘soothing’, and ‘relaxing’. Ara and her team translated these words in their work, something I’m very happy about. The project outcome was excellent, and I would definitely use State of Kin again. Each person brought huge value to the project - from their understanding of what we wanted to achieve to their creative talent. The girls were super professional, friendly and what I loved most was the aligned motivation for the best outcome. Their enthusiasm for the project and the desired result was refreshing and I loved working with that positive and creative energy. I hope to be able to open more pharmacies in line with Vim & Co and can’t wait to work with this amazing team again.
