A Brief History
A brief history of creating wooden floors
Since we began in 1986, The Wooden Floor Company has been enriching homes, shops, offices, and indoor venues with the beauty of timber flooring.
The Company was purchased by Peter Watts in 1994, specialising primarily in Kährs pre-finished wooden flooring. Since then, the Kährs range has expanded significantly adding a broad spectrum of new and exciting timber flooring solutions. The Wooden Floor Company also supplies and installs an increasing range of eucalyptus and other varieties of solid wood flooring, as well as traditional parquets and natural wooden floors.
We take pride in our quality of service and ensure that you only receive the best. Across our range of products, installation and after-sales services, we guarantee excellence. Our installation services in Auckland deliver a craftsman-level, professional quality of service from product selection through to completion. We believe in all the work we do and that’s why we back it up with a comprehensive 30-year guarantee.
Work with our experienced team to achieve the unique design and timeless beauty that only a high-quality wooden floor provides.
Care & Maintenace
Cleaning
Europlank-flooring is treated with a UV-cured lacquer, which gives it a smooth, easy to clean surface. With any wood product it is wise to limit the amount of water that is used and we recommend regular vacuuming to control dust and prevent particles of grit from being walked into the surface. Periodically the floor can be cleaned with a wellwrung mop. Use a neutral detergent, maximum pH 8. Please ensure that any water that is applied becomes dry within one minute. A spillage will not mark your floor if you wipe it up immediately.
Precautionary Measures
Keep a door mat both outside and inside entrance doors, this will remove dirt and gravel before it is walked in, which will greatly reduce the wear on your floor. Furniture legs should be fitted with felt pads to avoid unnecessary marks and scratches on the floor, use castor cups to protect the floor from castor damage. After the floor has been in use for a few years, you can easily revitalise it with an additional coat of lacquer. Mop up any spills; never allow water or other liquids to lie on the floor.
Renovation
If the floor has been subjected to considerable wear, it can be renovated by machine sanding and re-lacquering. Your LM floor has a thick top layer, so they are able to withstand being sanded and re-lacquered. Removal of stains If you have a stain on the floor, you can try to remove it with a mild detergent (without ammonia) diluted in lukewarm water. If this does not work, please refer to your flooring supplier for further assistance.

Woodloc The Strongest Joint
Kährs are the original developers of the breakthrough Woodloc® method of joining boards. Woodloc® ensures very tight timber joins which are almost seamless and protect the wood from warping and the joints from separating or gapping.
Wood expands contracts and reacts to moisture, which directly affects joints. The Woodloc® joint process is far superior to other joining methods, preventing gapping and damage to floor integrity.
Kährs Woodloc® has a unique record of timber flooring installation worldwide, with 25,000,000 m2 of Woodloc® flooring installed since introduction.
The Easiest Installation
The innovative Woodloc® joining method also makes installation much simpler and quicker. The strong joins and high tensile stress integrity of Woodloc® flooring allow timber floors to be accurately custom-fitted and laid onsite in any configuration.
Underfloor Heating
Kährs 15mm multi-layer parquet floors or 7 mm Linnea floors can be safely laid over underfloor heating.
Technical issues to be considered with underfloor heating -
- The surface temperature of the floor must not exceed 27 Celsius. This thermal profile requirement also relates to floors installed with heating equipment and fittings, like radiator pipes and floor areas exposed to direct heating.
- Beech and hard maple naturally expand and contract more than other timbers. It is recommended to consult with your timber flooring specialists regarding any possible issues related to your heating system.
The Best Climate Stability
Wood, being a natural material, responds to climate conditions seasonally. The expansion and contraction of timber can cause the movement of boards. Kährs timber floors are designed to deliver the perfect balance to minimise floor movement.
The Strongest Surface and Best Finish
The surface of a floor is subjected to considerable wear and tear. Kährs timber flooring is designed to maintain an excellent finished surface in combination with very high durability and long product life. A super-strong lacquer is used to maintain surface appearance and resist wear.
Your Kahrs Floor won't turn yellow or Discolour
Kährs' high tech UV-cured acrylic finish is designed to be highly resistant to common household stains for up to 24 hours and will not yellow or fade over time.
Traditional solid woodcut
Kähr's method of woodcutting, known as plain sawn, is the same technique used for our wood floors. The result is a much finer, more traditional wood grain that completely eliminates the splitting associated with peeled veneers.
The Same as a Solid
Kährs timbers incorporate a plain-sawn wear layer which can withstand the stresses and strains of daily use for decades. This wear layer is super-tough and is made to protect floor surfaces. It also makes cleaning easy and ensures that your timber floor is always looking great.

What Are The Advantages Of A Kahrs Wood Floor?
Over 60 years ago Kährs pioneered a unique three-layer construction of their wood floors and their carefully controlled moisture content eliminates up to 70% of the movement normally associated with solid timber flooring. Kährs wood floors, therefore, do not need to be nailed or glued to the subfloor. The boards lock together to give a perfectly flat floor with almost invisible joins. Because they are not glued they can be easily separated and relaid elsewhere.
