By Mayfair Pools
This is not just a swimming pool.
It may have earned the Platinum award at the Pool of the Year awards, but it’s so much more than that. This remarkable Queenstown build offers an immersive, sensory experience with interlinking water features evoking the pristine waters of Lake Wakatipu below.
The client brief was to replace their holiday cottage with a permanent contemporary residence that was elegant, sophisticated, and a luxurious retreat away from their business.
The construction of the pool Queenstown was a two year undertaking that involved many experts.
When you first come into the entrance courtyard of the property, you’re met with a mirror pond. This is the first hint at a multitude of water features that culminate in an infinity-edge pool that cantilevers out and seamlessly mirrors Lake Wakatipu below.
The dramatic waterfall over the infinity edge creates a sheet of water that drops five metres into a catchment pool, where there’s also a sheltered outdoor living grotto and a spa pool. There’s a multitude of options for interaction with the water, from meditative to energetic, to suit the mood of the day.
Architecture and engineering were paramount. The main pool is more than 15 metres long, and the entire complex required heavy-duty structural works as well as fine details – such as the razor-sharp level on the infinity edge.
The design of the pool was by the home’s architect Gary Todd Architecture. The end result really speaks for itself, with the precision of the design allowing the homeowners to effortlessly go with flow.
What the client has to say:
"Mayfair pools have been friendly, knowledgeable and professional to deal with from the initial design stage to refining all the options and working through any challenges for a stunning and unique final outcome with a beautiful swimming pool and grand waterfall."
