From the moment you enter this home the beauty of the various materials and attention to detail grabs you. This home is a masterpiece, cleverly crafted by client, architect and builder. It’s a home that sets an example of what beautiful architecture and attention to detail can achieve. Set high on a hilltop with wonderful views of Lake Taupo, yet there is as much to take in internally as there is externally.

Visitors enter though a clever entrance that marries stone, wood, earth and steel together in harmony and gives you an exciting hint of what’s to come.  Once inside your eye is immediately drawn to the high ceilings and walls made of cedar that are intricately joined together with wonderful negative detailing.

A unique geometric kitchen island provides a wonderful materialistic contrast to the warm wooden floors, walls and ceiling and the beautiful furniture that sits perfectly within the dimensions of the spaces.

Three floor-to-ceiling dark, textured concrete walls that incorporate indoor and outdoor fireplaces, provide striking focal points in different areas. The 5.5 to 7.5 meter high walls along with 10 structural pillars required specialist engineering and concrete pouring by Bannan Construction, Auckland. The process was carefully constructed, project managed and integrated into the build by The Craftsmen.

Flexibility of spaces is key to the houses design. Five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large office, multiple living areas both inside and out, a garage and storage room are designed to be opened and shut as the family grows and their needs change. Materials define and unite the spaces and are intricately built with the utmost detail.

This home will leave a lasting memory on every visitor and is an aspiration to anyone building their dream home.
