PROJECT: Meaden, Ashburton Melbourne, VIC

SPECIFIED BY: Architeck Engineering Consultants

PRODUCTS SPECIFIED: HydroTap Celsius All-In-One Arc BCSHA – Matte Black

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

An amazing mirrored “floating” island bench set the tone for this stunning, hotel-inspired kitchen.

A stunning, cantilevered island bench seemingly floats in this kitchen, thanks to a smoky mirrored effect which is heightened by the addition of LED lights to create an impressive visual feature. Inspired by the Ritz Carlton’s Presidential Suite, the kitchen features Calacatta marble countertops and matching splashbacks, together with plenty of luxury fittings and finishes befitting a resort-style ambiance.

In keeping with the client’s desire for a functional family home, a Zip HydroTap Celsius All-In-One Arc was specified in matte black. This clever system provides the family with instant access to filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water, and hot and cold unfiltered water on demand and it’s a perfect match with the other state-of-the-art appliances specified.

DESIGN SOLUTIONS

The rest of the house was designed around the kitchen as the showpiece, so it was important that this room set the tone with instantly recognisable visual features.

Utilising a square-set approach, the kitchen is streamlined and sleek, with slimline elements and contemporary overtones to capture the essence of luxury. In order to keep the main kitchen pristine and pure, a butler’s kitchen was neatly tucked away to the side for use as a workhorse during special occasions and to ensure day-to-day mess and clutter remained hidden.

To ensure the end result was exactly as the clients wanted, it was important that Cameron Mehmet from Architeck Engineering Consultants work closely with the interior designers. The clients had requested the highest possible functionality for all occasions, with high-end appliances needing to be incorporated throughout the space. For this reason, power requirements were an important consideration and the design team worked hard to refine the lighting and electrical specs to provide the finish and overall look required.

Air ventilation and airflow were carefully planned particularly for the Zip HydroTap with the cupboard size beneath increased in size and hidden cuts included to expand airflow within the cavity. The fridge/freezer size increased to two metres in width which, in turn, impacted the pantry size and shelving inclusions.

A lovely balance of tones and textures gives this kitchen a sophisticated appeal. The gorgeous veins of the natural stone are counter-balanced by crisp white cabinetry and offset with a deep, textured timber grain above the cooktop. Black stacked ovens and cooktop are matched with the matte black Zip HydroTap and black under-mounted sink. But, cleverly, the dishwasher is in white to create a cohesive colour scheme along the inside run of island cabinetry.

And, of course, the mirrored base of the island brings a dash of sparkle and shine to the kitchen.
