Our clients wanted to create a new light-filled open-plan living area to the rear of their double-fronted weatherboard home to replace a poorly planned 1980s addition. They also wanted to create a new ensuite bathroom in an existing bedroom and create some multi-purpose spaces including a kids' play room and a studio out the back.
The design solution works with the site levels, gets more light in and also provides the perfect spatial layout for a family with twin toddlers.
Steps in the floor plan help to deal with some tricky boundary conditions and ensure natural light isn't blocked for the neighbours while also creating the perfect nooks for recessed joinery to keep the living space neat and tidy. Similarly, a built-in window seat in the lounge is a beautiful, sunny spot to relax and is also a space efficient way to add additional seating to the lounge space.
