Described by its Architects as “a stunning office oasis amidst Chicago’s towering skyline,” Headlands Technologies new workspace, located within the Bank of America building in Chicago caters to the requirements of a leading global quantitative trading firm. The design brief specifically aimed to address the diverse needs of financial traders while fostering an environment conducive to attracting and retaining top industry talent.
Occupying two of the top three floors of this landmark skyscraper, Headlands Technologies boasts sweeping views of the Central City, Lake Michigan, and the expansive horizon beyond. Crafted by Garnett Architects, the innovative interior features a two-story open void foyer on the northern side of the structure. A striking circular staircase, adorned with Glasshape’s distinctive TemperShield bent architectural glass, serves as a focal point in this space. Complementing the staircase is a contemporary waterfall element, which, alongside natural greenery, contributes to a tranquil atmosphere perfect for appreciating the stunning vistas of sunrises and sunsets from this communal area.
The creation of the circular staircase was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Glass Solutions, HDI Railing Systems, and Glasshape, all united by a commitment to exceptional service and quality. HDI Railing Systems was responsible for accurately measuring the existing structure and producing design drawings for the glass and railing system, employing HDI’s proprietary Optik<sup>TM</sup> Shoe system. Subsequently, Glasshape utilized HDI’s shop drawings to inform the design and production of its custom 20.28mm (13/16″) TemperShield bent, toughened (tempered) and laminated low iron glass, which was then supplied to Glass Solutions.
