Most people renovate their bathrooms either because the style is dated, or the layout is just not functional. When asked why they decided to renovate Chris says ” Instead of just repairing the leak we thought we might as well do the whole thing. As we had not renovated before we did not want to renovate both the bathrooms at once. We decided if the first one goes well then we will renovate the next as we didn’t like it’s layout”.

Chris and his wife Hang first renovated their ensuite with us and we then renovated their guest bathroom. The highlight of this renovation is the bathroom design with its striking brushed gold tapware/fixtures with deep wooden textured vanities. This combination along with light wooden textured tiles, and neutral wall tiles give this bathroom a classic contemporary touch which gives it a timeless feel.

When asked how they went about looking for companies Chris said ” We first thought we would be able to manage the different trades but then quickly realised that we didn’t want to do that. We contacted a few companies but you guys got back to us the soonest”

” We got quotes from other companies but they didn’t give us the same reassurance. When we talked to you guys, it’s like everything was clear, the steps, the costs etc” said Chris when asked why they chose us.

Chris and Hang’s consultant Dorothy is also our lead renovation designer. She worked alongside our project manager Nick who was responsible for managing our trades team, keeping the project within the timeline, managing supplier deliveries and being our clients’ only point of contact throughout their bathroom renovation.

Design Process

As a designer and consultant, Dorothy usually helps our clients’ narrow down choices of their bathroom fixtures, and advice around design/textures and colours. Chris and Hang already had a vague idea on what they wanted but as they had not renovated before, they relied on Dorothy’s advice especially when it came down to practicality and functionality.

When asked why they chose the combination of wood and gold they said ” Oh we went to your showroom and I just fell in love with the gold”. Our renovation showroom in Wairau Valley, Auckland features a bathroom display with a wooden vanity and brushed gold fixtures.

Renovation Process and Project Management

Nick was the lead project manager for Chris’ bathroom renovation. We asked Chris and Hang about their renovation process and they said ” It was very smooth, Nick who was managing the process was informing us every step of the way. And we had a couple of problems and he would show up within 30 minutes and resolve it”.

” The trade team was lovely. They always asked us if everything was fine before they left. Before they installed the vanity, shower or sink they would ask us what height was more suitable for us. They even helped us with things that were not part of the renovation like moving our furniture”

Main Bathroom

This bathroom was very small and the layout was not functional for our clients (as seen in the ‘before’ photos in the start of the case study. It was also very dated and it looked even more smaller due to the bulky acrylic shower.

Hence, Dorothy advised our clients to switch things around a bit to make it more functional. We also custom built a tiled shower with custom shock proof glass to give it an illusion of a bigger bathroom.

All fittings for this bathroom were from the same brands as the guest bathroom.

  • Ravaini 1500 American Walnut Stone cast – Matt white
  • Tony rectangular basin
  • Tate Shower mixer brushed gold
  • Evoke towel rail brushed brass
  • Mizu drift Dome pop up.
