Nestled in the southeastern suburb of Kingsford, a sturdy Californian bungalow, The Courtyard House, has been given a new lease of life whilst retaining the cherished character of the original home.

The design intentionally sought to preserve and build on the existing layers of the home. The central courtyard is carefully placed to form the connection between the old and the new and breathes sunlight and air into the centre of the home.

With a focus on re-use the addition retained the original cottage, the new architectural form and identity to the rear of the house is created with a focus on recycled and sustainable materials. Demolished bricks from the original home were re used in the new paved areas and new walls to enhance the connection.

About the
Professional

This practice has an appreciation for design and we are especially passionate about houses. There is an individual approach to each project, as the design responds to the client’s needs. For this reason, each project looks different from the last to reflect the owner’s personalities, with the integrity of design as a constant throughout.

Maryanne’s experience spans twenty years of local experience working as an Architect. Prior to starting this practice she was an Associate in an award winning Sydney Architectural firm for almost ten years. Throughout her career she has been afforded a broad range of skills ranging from concept design through to completion of projects.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
