The new clubhouse for Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club sits on the site of the original club, a prominent site beach-side of the Great Ocean Road.
The new clubhouse houses new social and function rooms, with related ancillary spaces to reflect the increase in membership and offer greater opportunities to open up the facilities for community use. These areas are at ground level maximising the sweeping views of Fairhaven beach. The operational & patrol areas for the club are situated in a basement zone, with direct beach access for patrols, training and competition. The patrol tower is set apart, a beacon for public and members alike. Materials and forms have been thoughtfully composed to produce appropriate scale without compromising the dramatic setting.
The process evolved through consultation with the club membership alongside local community groups, residents and statutory authorities.
