Project Overview
Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre is a landmark waterfront development located in the heart of Geelong’s revitalised waterfront precinct. Delivered as part of the Geelong City Deal, this world-class venue has been designed by Woods Bagot Woods Bagot in collaboration with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, reflecting a deep connection to Country and community.
Project Scope
The development forms a 1.6-hectare civic precinct and includes:
- A 1,000-seat state-of-the-art theatre
- Flexible conference and exhibition spaces (3,700 sqm)
- Meeting and multi-purpose event rooms
- Public plaza and activated waterfront spaces
- Integrated 200-room Crowne Plaza hotel
Design & Features
The architectural design celebrates Geelong’s coastal identity, featuring a sculptural façade inspired by the Corio Bay landscape. The building integrates sustainability, universal design principles, and smart event technology to deliver a future-focused experience for delegates, visitors, and the local community.
Construction & Delivery
The project is being delivered by the Plenary Conventions consortium, with Built as the main contractor and Woods Bagot as lead architect. Construction is progressing toward completion in 2026, forming a key part of regional Victoria’s major infrastructure pipeline.

Once operational, Nyaal Banyul will position Geelong as a premier destination for business events, tourism, and cultural gatherings—creating jobs, boosting the local economy, and strengthening the region’s global profile
