George Humphreys House, 2023
Glebe NSW
A state heritage listed Victorian terrace reworked to accommodate a busy, city based family of four. A rear extension comprises a kitchen and dining space that spills onto a rear courtyard, and a third storey concealed within the existing roof space provides additional floor area while satisfying the strict guidelines of the heritage conservation area. Within the original building, space was reconfigured to accommodate an additional bathroom and laundry. Considered placement of new glazing and skylights provide generous natural light to the previously dark, south facing rooms. The refined material palette seamlessly transitions the old into the new, celebrating and enhancing the original character elements of this home.
I’m based in Berry, South Coast of NSW Australia. I’m a registered Architect and have worked extensively on residential, commercial and industrial architectural projects across many landscapes. I believe that architecture is a process of response, to both person and place. It is this process that pushes me to continue to explore various design solutions for each client and project. It was capturing the results of these journeys that has provided the catalyst for my other passion, photography.
Architecture can be, at times, a complex environment, but I find photography takes me to the opposite side, slowing the moment down, allowing one to stop and appreciate, compose and capture the moment.
With architecture I aim to respond to client’s individual brief to develop high quality buildable design outcomes.
