A Renovation Masterpiece at this Herbert Road, Herbert property near Oamaru.
The renovation of this 1915 lifestyle property, undertaken by JDBuilders, exemplifies the seamless fusion of historic architecture with contemporary functionality. Set on 1.46 hectares, the original 170m² home was transformed to enhance both its form and utility, while maintaining the character that has defined it for over a century.
Bathroom Redesign: A Blend of Elegance and Precision
In the downstairs bathroom, our team executed a comprehensive transformation to elevate the space for modern living. The removal of existing fixtures—including the shower, bath, vanity, and toilet—provided the foundation for a dual-purpose layout that introduces both a separate powder room and an upscale main bathroom.
The powder room, designed with meticulous attention to spatial efficiency, was constructed utilizing part of the old HWC cupboard and maximized to its 1800x1200 specifications, offering a streamlined yet sophisticated addition.
For the main bathroom, we installed a 1200x1000 tiled shower with bespoke detailing. The selection of materials was key: 200x200 Palm Beach Navy floor tiles paired with 300x100 Crest White Gloss wall tiles for a contemporary contrast, further enhanced by two recessed niches and an Everdry shower base—ensuring both aesthetics and durability.
Beyond the shower, the space is adorned with a new freestanding bath, a custom vanity with an illuminated mirror, and premium fixtures including a steam ventilation fan and heated towel rail. These elements combine to create a spa-like atmosphere while maintaining functionality.
To complement the architectural style of the home, pressed metal panels and a panel border dado mold were meticulously incorporated, providing a heritage touch. The upper walls, finished in high-quality paint, create a subtle contrast that enhances the room’s design flow.
