Welcome to our Japanese Inspired Courtyard project, completed in 2020 by JD Landscape Architecture! This project was truly a labour of love, especially considering the unique circumstances under which it was conceived. During lockdown, we had to rely on effective communication and adaptability as we couldn't physically visit the site.
The site itself presented quite the challenge, with its bleak clay-embanked space and poor drainage - bone dry in summer and sopping wet in winter. We knew we had to make the most of it, and that's where the Japanese garden concept came into play. Using locally sourced limestone walls to expand the courtyard space, and incorporating Garapa timber for warmth and softness, we were able to create a beautiful and harmonious oasis. The ceramic paving added the perfect touch, breaking up the decking and striking a balance between hard and soft materials.
Featured in this project are Jardin Outdoor Furniture and the Luxembourg Low Armchair by Fermob. It's a true testament to what can be achieved in residential landscaping, even in urban settings. We're proud of the result and hope it inspires others to think outside the box when it comes to their own outdoor spaces.
