This project involved extensive alterations and additions to an existing 1940s free standing house situated on a steep block overlooking Clovelly in New South Wales. For a young family that enjoy cooking and entertaining, the design implemented an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. Full height joinery extends and connects these areas and uses a mix of contrasting white polyurethane and natural blackbutt timber veneer to define each of the separate zones.

Large sliding doors were installed on the opposite side of the room to visually extend the space to the boundary. Instead of a splashback, a frameless window was introduced along benchtop to allow natural light and views of plants also whilst cooking.

The island is the main food preparation and cleaning area. It also functions as a divider to the dining and circulation area and is used for seating at breakfast time and to interact with the cook. To enhance the ‘floating’ effect at night, L.E.D., strip lighting on top and below the joinery is used.

RAAarchitects is a design oriented architectural practice focused on delivering high quality residential & commercial projects . Our aim is to produce architecture that has both a good functional layout and simple elegant form. This design approach is fundamental to every decision along the construction process.

Our projects are designed and documented using ArchiCAD in 3D. This enables clients to fly through the 3D model with us and receive regular 3D updates of the project to view on their computer or mobile devices. With this system we are able to thoroughly coordinate consultant input as they update and ensure no drawing conflict.

Our primary focus in design is created by a strong desire to benefit more people through architecture and it is this goal which drives us to produce solutions most sensible to every project. Combined with successive processes of renew, rethink, reinvent, RAAA delivers a unique and value-added outcome to every project.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
