Laya Healthcare’s new Cork and Cherrywood clinics feature welcoming, neurodiversity-friendly designs, with Altro flooring selected for comfort, safety, ease of maintenance and aesthetics across all patient and staff areas.

Issue
Laya Healthcare have been creating new healthcare and wellbeing clinics in Ireland. The brief was to design environments that meet the diverse needs of all users, including those with neurodiversity, creating a comfortable, welcoming, and efficient healthcare experience. Spaces also needed to support staff wellbeing, be beautiful, and be functional, balancing clinical operational needs with a desired patient experience.

Approach
The design included patient-facing areas, a nurses’ station, an X-ray waiting area and MRI suite, stairwells, toilets and shower rooms, and operating theatre prep and recovery rooms. Staff changing rooms, showers and toilets also needed to be installed with flooring for comfort and slip resistance.

To meet the sustainability criteria and keep the project to tight completion timescales, installation speed was critical.

Solution
Altro adhesive-free floors helped to meet the build schedules. Altro Cantata adhesive-free in colour Crème Caramel was specified for communal areas. Altro Cantata adhesive-free features Altro’s most advanced cleaning technology, ensuring easy maintenance and enhanced infection control, along with impact sound reduction of 14dB.

Altro Wood adhesive-free in colour Champagne Oak was specified to provide high comfort underfoot, offering a safe, durable, biophilic solution for busy circulation and waiting areas.

For the showers, changing rooms, and toilets, where slip risk was higher, Altro Pisces in colour Cuttlefish was specified, providing lifetime slip resistance and a soft-look shade.

“Our busy commercial kitchen needed a complete over-haul. The existing flooring had lost it’s non-slip properties and had become slippery. We were using rubber mats to assist with slip resistance but these were proving to be a trip hazard in themselves. We needed to remove the existing flooring and replace it with a long lasting, easy to clean and safe new flooring. Through a strong recommendation from our kitchen appliance supplier we chose Altro’s Stronghold K30 R12 Safety Flooring in colour Dolphin for our new kitchen. The result has been fantastic. The 3mm thickness of Stronghold K30 is not only proving to be extremely durable but it is much more comfortable and less fatiguing on our staff who are working on it all day. It is also proving to be extremely easy to clean and the lifetime slip resistance guarantee provides me with the assurance that my staff and suppliers will remain safe at all times. For these reasons, I would strongly recommend that you consider using Stronghold K30 on your commercial kitchen floors.”
