Light Clay Straw House banner

The walls of this house are built with an insulating, healthy, low embodies energy material known as Light Earth. Light Earth is made from straw coated in a light clay slip and placed into a temporary formwork supported off a centrally places structural timber frame.

The build utilises recycled material throughout including, recycles Karri floorboards, recycled Australian Coachwood ceiling and recycled Oregon framing. New double glazed timber windows are used together with some recycled windows, combining the old and new.

This is not a large house but the use of light and flow through rooms make it feel spacious. One of the most environmentally responsible things we can do is not build houses larger than we need.

Natural, Sustainable, Healthy - Creating low energy homes for better living

At Shelter Building Design we specialise in using natural building materials and passive house principles to create comfortable, low energy, healthy homes.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
