The mixed-use development, Lot 4, comprises of two retail spaces at ground level and four residential apartments.

Located in the previous site of the DYC Vinegar Company, Lot 4 consists of 176m² of site area. The Vinegar Lane urban development was sold to different developers and individuals, therefore making it an interesting precinct.

The apartments have living and dining areas either-side of a central kitchen. Natural stone features throughout the master ensuite and the master bedroom looks back over the city. The rooftop which houses a swimming pool and spa pool, along with a gas fireplace and barbeque ensures the rooftop is fit for entertaining and hiring out for private functions.

The geometric façade comprises of three large moves all with strong reference symbology to reflect both the client and the TOA Architects love of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. 

At first you cannot go past the mauri of Te Tonga whetu O te Rangi – the southern star, a giant X window measuring 3m wide by 14m high. This Tohu (marker) to the street, gives the building an identity, we wanted both building users and passers-by to have an multi-sensory experience, to look up, to pause, to smile and to be proud. This feature is engineered to hover above the entrance and is architecturally designed as a practical response to sun shading and privacy.

Next is the use of black oxide concrete on the façade as well as the solid balustrades which are also planter boxes. These items pay homage to the Volcanic field and fertile soils of Tāmaki Makaurau.

The last feature is the larger rolling timber façade.  This aspect responds to the modern day whakapapa of the site.  Initially it was designed to be clad in native totara, paying homage to the original vinegar factory which was constructed of Totara.
