Macmasters Beach House

While the exterior of this villa-style home on the Central Coast is emblematic of 1980s architecture, Greg Natale revives the interior with contemporary flair for modern family living. Built in 1985, this postmodern palace features original columns and terrazzo floors that now lay the foundation for modern, open-plan living. Greg Natale introduced a palette of white and blue-green tones to evoke a clean, gallery-esque feeling before adding layers of soft furniture upholstered in warm orange and deep red fabrics. Playful nods to postmodern aesthetics are made throughout, including custom shelving finished in a swirling veneer created by Ettore Sottsass. Connecting the living and dining area with the new kitchen is a feature wall of Calcutta Viola marble slabs, a reference to the Barcelona Pavilion. Abiding by a modernist grid of the home’s structural architecture, new walls of marble around what was originally a kitchenette create a concealed scullery space, and a new show kitchen equipped with a custom island and fitted with fluted joinery serves to provide a casual, family-style dining experience.
