The Papatoetoe Multisport and Community Centre was recognised as the Most Outstanding Recreation Facility in New Zealand in the 2013 New Zealand Recreation Association Awards. Developed in partnership with the Papatoetoe Sports and Community Charitable Trust and Auckland Council. Extensive consultation with multiple sporting and community groups laid the foundation for one of the very few multi-stakeholder facilities of this type. A hugely successful and stunning building, the facility consists of a three-lane indoor cricket training centre, strength training area, reception and administration offices, multi-use and community areas, two function spaces, a commercial kitchen and canteen, external balcony areas and multi-use changing rooms.
The design involves a whole of life value principles approach, with a holistic approach to sustainable design included significant open space landscape regeneration, robust low maintenance materials that naturally weather with time, and full on-site treatment of waste water. The buildings are all naturally lit and ventilated.
