Picture a residence that was transformed through reclad and renovation into a new narrative, guided by eight years of intimate knowledge. This provided clear direction for how to move rooms and levels based on how the family live, how they like to enjoy the space and ascertain what needed to be improved.
Following an overnight stay, the design draws inspiration from the captivating textures and details of Hotel Britomart, fostering warmth, coziness, and seamless indoor/outdoor connectivity. The integration of spaces like the kitchen, dining, and living areas to bring all onto the same level reflects a harmonious flow towards the outdoors, encouraging effortless entertaining and family gatherings.
Organic textures and natural elements echo the beauty of nature. The subtle accents of fixtures and fittings soften the home's architectural lines, complementing curved features used throughout, creating a sense of gentle refinement.
This project exemplifies a sanctuary where the home’s evolution of design embraces the lifestyle, passions and inspirations of the residents offering an abundance of casual sophistication.
Method behind the masterpiece
What was your inspiration?
Inspired by organic, natural textures and of course nature itself, with products that patina and age gracefully over time adding different depths and stories.
They wanted a home that felt warm, cosy and relaxed to create a private sanctuary with spaces within it for themselves and their three children to escape to.
Simultaneously it was important to create a connection to the outdoors with great indoor/outdoor flow where they can effortlessly entertain friends and family.
How does the door hardware fit into that?
The Verge handle felt organic and beautiful to touch with the diamond knurled texture adding interest and contrast.
Drawn to the curved lines, their gentle femininity softens the straight lines of the rectangular doors, walls and cedar boards. They also tie in well with other curved features in the house such as curved walls, stairs, plinths, balustrades and light fittings.
The Dark Roman Brass finish was chosen for its antique vibe and organic fit.
What did you match the hardware to?
All the plumbing fittings, internal and external lighting, large bespoke front door handle and other aged brass trinkets. The finish also juxtaposed against the usage of white throughout and complemented the marble, travertine, stone and tiles.
What is your favourite detail in the home?
The giant kitchen island, curved stairs with floor to ceiling balustrades and the last-minute cedar ceilings!
