P&K General Store and Supermarket Refurbishment
Holmes Construction, as the Main Contractor, took on the task of constructing the new four square supermarket, demolishing existing shops to make way for the new footprint. With a focus on refurbishing both the interior and exterior of the general store, additional retail spaces were added for new tenants. This project was a significant milestone for the Martinborough community, with the store being a local staple since 1873. Holmes Construction is proud to have been a part of refreshing this landmark family business and continuing the longstanding relationship between the Holmes and Kershaw families.
Entering through the rear entrance, visitors are greeted by a glass entryway and exposed brickwork that beautifully blends the old with the new. The timber flooring was replaced with polished concrete, the exterior façade was replastered, and historical period colour schemes were carefully selected for a cohesive look. Structural steel restrengthening was also a key aspect of the project, ensuring that the building met 75% of the new building code requirements. Additionally, two new retail tenancies were added at the front of the store, providing new homes for Nara on the Square and the General Store Martinborough.
