They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder; when that eye belongs to a builder and landscape designer power-couple, incredible beauty can be seen and built into falling-apart homes. Hamish and Lucinda, homeowners and industry professionals, bought the home nine years ago when it was falling apart due to a termite infestation. Together with a strong team of builders and more, renovations were completed in 2020 – at the height of COVID-19. Now, the home boasts a new elevated extension with four bedrooms and kitchen and dining areas which open onto a concrete alfresco.
The couple used sustainable and recycled timbers, grey tile and black matt finishes to complete the modern yet timeless look. These natural and earthy elements were chosen to create kerb appeal that is both stunning and subtle enough to draw the eye but not invite it to linger. Inside the home, timber abounds as a key feature which creates warmth and balances the coldness of polished concrete and white walls.
CUTEK® Extreme CD50 combined with a CUTEK® Sela Brown Colourtone was chosen to coat the exterior Silvertop Ash cladding. Not only will the timber’s natural colour be maintained after the addition of the Colourtone, but it will be less susceptible to harsh UV rays and moisture movement thanks to the nature of CUTEK® Extreme CD50. After six years renovating this home, Hamish and Lucinda chose CUTEK® for long-lasting timber protection which would maintain the natural beauty of their home’s timber features.

CUTEK® began as a problem solver in the market. We understood that timber is beautiful, however because it is a natural resource, it can have some inherent problems when using it to create lasting structures. The original CUTEK® formula was created to displace water from timber, giving it increased dimensional stability. We have then evolved to create other formulas included CUTEK® Wood Preservative, a decorative wood coating (that is able to be coloured) which makes timber resistant to mould, fungus and termites while also keeping it dimensionally stable.
CUTEK® is forever anticipating change and need. If someone wants to use timber in a unique way, or in a unique setting, we want to work alongside them, troubleshooting the problem towards an inspired solution.
We have always been, and always will be, champions for the use of the timber in the building industry. If you want to use it, we will help you find a way.
