This contemporary residential home has been designed for a beachfront allotment overlooking the stunning Sellicks Beach in South Australia. The timber decking entry from the street leads you through a beautiful private courtyard, providing shelter from the ocean winds to the front door of the house. Step inside to the entry hall with a refined timber staircase, elevator and views into another internal courtyard that provides shelter from the very strong south-easterly summer winds. Also on the ground floor are a large family room/cinema, and two generous bedrooms with a shared ensuite. The laundry, powder room and large garage with boat storage complete this level of the home. The first floor contains a large open plan living, dining and kitchen with outstanding views over the beach and down the gulf to Myponga Beach with Rapid Head in the distance. Two more large bedrooms each with their own ensuites are also on this floor, and a large front balcony provides a generous outdoor space for the bbq facilities and outdoor entertaining. The house has been designed to address northern winter sun, cooling ocean sea breezes, and shelter from the very strong local southeasterly winds. A large underground rainwater tank provides generous water storage, and the home has been designed on an economical structural grid to contain building costs. The sharp-edged rendered walls combined with the soft timber cladding give the home a balanced coastal material palette. Careful use of hardwood timber battens provides shelter and shading where required, and the home is complemented by low maintenance, drought and salt tolerant plantings.

About the
Professional

I have over 22 years of professional experience in all project types. I've worked for small boutique practices, large multi-national practices, builders, government, and most rewardingly in my own practice.

I believe good architecture improves life. I also believe that good architecture needn't be expensive. It's not about how much money you spend, it's about maximising the result from the money you are comfortable in spending. I enjoy working for clients that appreciate good design and value the knowledge and experience I bring to their project.

Through my residential work in particular, my practice has developed a strong reputation for clear client communication and outstanding design quality. I have a deep appreciation and knowledge of our natural world and changing climatic conditions. This intuitive environmental appreciation is critical to successful architectural design, and strong motivation for my exciting and responsible design concepts.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
