When Sony Pictures Releasing commissioned Cachet to renovate their 15-year old theatrette in Market Street Sydney, they asked us to lift the user experience by creating a space that was more contemporary, more comfortable and with added functionality for day or night events.

Our design showcased the creativity that makes the big screen industry so special, delivering a new space designed to seamlessly transition from theatre to bar – making the venue more suitable for various types of entertainment.

We took inspiration from the architecture of old 1930s cinemas, including the soft, rounded curves and vertical groove details. We then translated this into our own creative language to deliver something sophisticated and elegant.

To create a modern but timeless look, we used warm walnut timbers, textured stone and soft floral pattern upholstery, with hints of brass adding a touch of luxury and style. On the floors we used a mixture of soft grey textured hues to contrast with a refined, rich palette of deep navy and green tones.
