St Andrews Chapel, Christchurch banner

In many ways the St. Andrews College Chapel project in Christchurch is the most demanding project Rooflogic has been involved in. The chapel roof had a complex geometry – high, steep gables, sweeping curves and tight angles. And when the roof was completed it would be a highly visible element of the design. In every respect the challenge for the roofing contractor, SWP Commercial Limited, was huge. But the end product has met the expectations of all those involved in the project.

Project Team:

  • Architect: Architectus
  • Installation Date: August 2016
  • Main Contractor: Armitage Williams

Rooflogic specified their Ultratherm Xtreme system with Derbigum membrane. The system comprised Rooflogic’s structural base deck, vapour control layer, rigid PIR insulation (80mm) and Securock Roof Board. The Securock Roof Board was then overlaid with a two layer Derbigum modified bitumen roofing membrane. St Andrews College Chapel Roof is the perfect example of what can be achieved when the world’s best bitumen roofing membrane and New Zealands best membrane installers come together.

The Derbigum membrane has been used internationally for 45 years and has demonstrated its durability and UV stability in the world’s most demanding climate zones. The BBA appraisal for Derbigum membrane states an expected service life of not less than 40 years, a statement of confidence in the product that other membranes cannot match. The quarried natural slate finish of the Derbigum membrane provides a beautiful and enduring aesthetic that gives it an unsurpassed architectural quality.
