System: Roofing Industries Multirib and FiberTite Membrane 5000m2 - Roof overlay system

Removal of existing roofing and new metal profile roof installed.

The Roof of the Te Papa archives building which houses the workshop areas, accommodation, library and offices of the Te Papa archives team had been deteriorating over the past decade and the many leaks were staring to cause issues for the content and the structure.

SWP Tendered against some big names in the commercial construction market but in the end with a robust methodology and smart solutions offered by SWP, we were awarded the contract to remove and replace the existing roof and membrane to the main building and the marine archive building.

Because of the time it would take and the risk of removing the old cement board tiles from the roof, the buildings had to be fully covered by scaffold and wrapped. This had its own complexities with the crane access being limited in all areas and then dealing with the temperamental winds of Wellington.

Unfortunately, when you drive past the building it is hard to recognise the amount of hard work and planning that was put into one of our most prestigious projects.
