The brief was to bring new life into an old state house. Update and reconfigure the internal spaces, insulate and double-glaze. Keeping the layout simple and making better use of the site.

Our response was to move the living and kitchen to the west for afternoon living and views to Saddle Hill. We worked with the current footprint and added a deck. The owners have lived in the house for 20 years so they had a pretty good feel for how the site works. All other internal spaces were reconfigured and the covered porch was kept as a nod to the dwelling’s past. Happily, the entire foundation system was also retained. The kitchen and dining were opened up with a cathedral ceiling and multiple skylights allowing for plenty of natural light, accessed via lobby from the front entrance they serve as the central focus for daily living with the bedrooms and bathroom situated at the other end of the house.

Eco Workshop embraces architecture through liveable design. Our work ranges from new buildings to sensitive intervention with older structures. We believe the quality of our surroundings can uplift our lives. We take a contemporary approach to spatial arrangement, materiality and form of our buildings. Eco Workshop has Professional membership of ADNZ: Architectural Designers New Zealand.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
