Timeless Victorian architectural elegance reimagined in 2026 with Oamaru Stone.

The Forrester Gallery is a stunning example of heritage architecture. With its striking Neo-Classical façade, this Category 1 Heritage building was built in 1884 as the Bank of New South Wales, and now the building is home to an impressive art collection and a vibrant exhibition programme showcasing works by local artists. The building extension provides much-needed storage space for the gallery’s growing art collection and new exhibition areas. At our quarry, the blocks were individually colour matched to the old stonework, while their contemporary smooth-faced finish emphasises the almost 150-year difference between the construction dates of the two structures.

“We chose Oamaru stone as we were looking for a cladding that was unique in an industry that is full of very similar looking products. We really like the clean look from afar, but also the interesting detail it has when you get up close. We love the faint saw marks when the sun hits it at particular angles, and that it’s a natural product which works really well with the cedar”
