The Guardsman banner

The Guardsman, Adelaide Railway Station’s long forgotten Grand Public Dining Hall, is a place to discover the untold stories, a place where rich history meets the transformative power of contemporary design. The line between heritage and contemporary is carefully blurred to allow new tales to become a part of the future history.

Originally a public dining hall at the Adelaide Railway Station, it was intended to be meeting place for travellers to stop, refresh and enjoy a meal. At the time it was trumpeted it as being the ‘finest dining hall in Australia’, with a menu of ‘comprehensive character’, accommodating 200 diners and featuring floorboards suitable for dancing.

The Guardsman is a special project that has revitalised the space and has now again provided services for travellers that was the original intent of the building design in the 1930’s.

About the
Professional

The team at studio-gram are collaborators. They enjoy working together with all project team members and client groups. Their project teams range from art directors and photographers, to botanists and permaculturists, through to audio specialists and mixologists.

The practice is client-focused. They are constantly challenging themselves to create compelling architecture that fits an exacting brief. Each project is treated with the same respect, research and investigations as the last, creating designs that meet the aspirations of the clients, respond to site conditions, and create experiences for future occupants.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
