Brief

The brief tried to answer 'How can we live with our loved ones as well as our most treasured possessions under the same roof'? The Storehouse looks to blend a typical residential home with a storage shed on a small block of land.

Challenges & Solutions

The owner required to store many vehicles and equipment that were housed in off site storage sheds. This was an expensive situation but selling any of the items was not an option. So the idea was to look at how we could store them in a newly built residence. Not only was storage the issue but how would it look and blend? The other issue was the fact that the newly purchased block that sat above an adjacent highway, shared a Right of Way with a doctors surgery and was only 628m2. What were the solutions? In order for both storage of vehicles/equipment and residence to work together we needed space. This meant that we had to maximise the building envelope and also excavate into the slope of the site. This enabled a 20 x 9m storage shed to be built to the side and under the rest of the house. The shape of the building envelope also created a unique form that we used to tame the massing an industrial feel. The site also had a substantial fall that we used to hide the size and height of the building.

Testimonial

“Trying to fit everything we wanted on a small residential allotment was challenging. Starbox worked proactively to discover solutions to comply with planning and building regulations while consecutively ticking off the must-haves in our current lifestyle. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome we achieved in partnership on this journey.”

At Starbox Architecture - we humanise spaces.

This means creating spaces that promote social interaction, engagement and connection. We focus on spaces individually, collectively and how we experience spatial sequences.

We are driven by the brief, site location, local elements and human value. We believe that working collaboratively alongside clients and consultants with effective communication, ensures that the brief is ultimately addressed and realised. Our designs are individual, site specific and client driven with character, purpose and individuality that are intimately connected to the client.

We respond to the context of the site in a dynamic manner that is both relevant and appropriate to create a built form that is physically beautiful and enriches the lives of it’s occupants pragmatically and aesthetically. We are always conscious of passive environmentally sustainable design principles which include consideration of the material palette and the manner in which the building elements are connected to the surrounding environment. We are a multi-disciplinary practice that has delivered many projects of varying diversity, scale and complexity and has proven capability in both design and delivery.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
