Originally used as wool stores by the New Zealand Shipping Co, Parnell’s historic Textile Centre is now home to a cluster of innovative businesses, attracted by the building complex’s great bones and character feel. In 2019, Haydn & Rollett’s Property Services team added two architecturally designed bathroom suites to that mix.
Designed by T Plus Architects and housing 24 individual cubicles, the suites make appealing use of the Textile Centre’s historic fabric, setting bespoke metalwork, full-height doors and full-length tiling against the original brick walls and timber beams. In addition, the team refurbished and relaid the existing timber floor.
The detailing was demanding on this high quality project. All of the tile edging is mitred, and there was some particularly fiddly work around junction areas. But the even bigger challenge was that this is a busy tenanted building, requiring Haydn & Rollett’s team to meet strict noise and dust restrictions and to do much of the work after hours.
