The clients, a couple of young professionals wanted a family home fitting for the quieter hillside suburb of Christchurch, a far cry from the hustle and bustle of inner-city apartment living they were accustom to.

The design was conceived as an arrangement of traditional gable-form brick wings connected by a contemporary glass lined central walkway with all the modern amenities a family home requires.

The home sits within the Christchurch suburb of Kennedys Bush, designed by Design Workshop Architecture and delivered by Saunders Building whilst Michelle Lamb was commissioned to complete the interior design throughout the home.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding hillside beauty, the main living spaces consist of various warm neutrals with pops of earthy blues and greens. The master suite and media room having deeper tones and a slightly more luxurious feel.

The floors are a blonde Desert Oak with a beige chunky loop pile wool carpet throughout the bedroom and lounge spaces. The kitchen mixes taupe and forest green cabinetry with timeless calacatta marble porcelain benching. A large entertainers’ waterfalled island anchoring the kitchen in the middle of the living spaces.

The spacious bathrooms offer a feeling of simplicity and luxury, the guest featuring a freestanding bath and a slightly lighter backdrop, with the master featuring a double shower and a statement slate textured large format tile. The powder room offering a touch of ‘wow’ with reeded glass and a bold amazon toned tile throughout.

The living spaces are divided into formal and casual spaces. The navy colour-drenched media room features a coved ceiling and plenty of darker toned textures – the perfect spot to curl up for movie night with a glass of wine. The casual living space off the kitchen offers a fresh, light alternative – lined with sliding doors with views of the surrounding hills.
